Hi I'm Gary R,

I'm a Security Analyst, and a Windows Update Trainee, and I'd like to help you with your problems.

As a trainee, any instructions I give you must first be checked by a qualified update expert, before I post them. This will by necessity introduce some delay to any of my replies, so please be patient.

Please follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log.

  • Download SURT for your system. (Windows 7 SP1 x64)
  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go through the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes).
  • On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
  • Attach this log to your next reply.

Hi Gary, thanks for your help!
Please find the CheckSUR.log attached below (full CBS.log is attached to the previous post).
Cheers

Looking it over now.

Back as soon as I've analysed it, formulated a fix, and had the fix approved.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

  • Download SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and also save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Next ...

Hi Gary, thanks for the fix. It ran through successfully.
The SFCFix.txt has too many characters to be posted here, hence I attached it too.

The CBS log has no more errors.

I tried the update afterwards, but still the same error appears:

  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the ... C:\Windows\Logs\CBS ... folder.
  • Right click on it, and select ... Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder
  • A message will appear stating, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
    • Answer Y to create a folder CBS.zip on your Desktop.
  • Please attach it to your next post.
    • If the file is too large, please upload it to a file sharing service and provide the link to it in your next reply.
    • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Looking over your logs now. This may take me a while, I'll be back as soon as possible.

Sorry to be so long getting back to you.

I need to take a look at the Components Hive in your Registry

Please do the following ....

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

Thanks, I've downloaded a copy.

Didn't find what I'd hoped to find, so can you please do the following ...

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, and press Enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:4467107
4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Hi Gary, sorry for the late response. It tells me KB4467107 is not installed on the computer

In that case ....

Download FRST64 to your Desktop.

  • Double click Frst64.exe to launch it.
  • FRST will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
    • Copy/Paste or Type the following line into the Search: box.
    KB4467107
    • Press the Search Registry button.
    • When finished searching a log will open on your Desktop ... SearchReg.txt
    • Please post (or attach) it in your next reply.

  • NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user. Running it on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
  • Download the attached file fixlist.txt, and move it to the same location as FRST64.exe (must be in same location or fix won't work)
  • Start FRST ....
  • Now press the Fix button once and wait.
  • FRST will process fixlist.txt
  • When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt in the same folder/directory as FRST64.exe
  • Please post me the log

Hi Gary, the update went through and I was even able to finally upgrade to Windows 10 with no issues. Thanks again for your help!
Cheers

You're welcome, glad we could help.

I was just going to ask you to try to update, but seems you beat me to it. Happy to hear that you were finally able to upgrade to W10.

I'll mark this topic as solved then.
