While researching my problem, I came across this thread here:
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...ror-0x8024200d-update-kb4471318-w7sp1x64.html

I had to reset Windows Updates at one point, so possible Windows now doesn't see a prerequisite patch that was installed previously.

I have tried manually downloading and installing windows6.1-kb4471318-x64.msu with the same result each time.

- Ran SFC, which found issues, but was "unable to fix some of them". I do know one issue is from manually swapping a DLL to allow some deeper Windows GUI customization (have always had this).

- Attempted to install KB4471318 again, failed.

- Ran Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu. It sat at ~95% for over an hour but did complete successfully.

- Attempted to install KB4471318 again, failed.

- Ran SFCFix. SURT corruption count 368, none fixed (SFCFix.txt attached).

- Attempted to install KB4471318 again, failed.

- Zipped up CBS.log: Dropbox - CBS.zip

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.
Please let me know if I need to provide any further info.

Thank you!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put
    Code:
    tags around the log to break up the text.

Afterwards, please run SURT and attach CheckSUR.log.

Dropped the ZIP onto the EXE and get the following.

"Welcome to SFCFix by niemiro and sysnative.com.

Checking for updates . . .
No new update is available at this time.

ERROR: Zip file is corrupt or unreadable. This may be due to a bad download.
Please re-download the zip file, try again, and see if the problem persists. If
it does, let your helper know as it may be that the upload is corrupt, and that
is something that only your helper can fix.

Press any key to exit . . ."

I've downloaded the ZIP a few times now and each time the file is the same size 3.07MB and looks fine - can open it and see the contents, etc.

Please extract the Packages folder from the zip onto your Desktop and drag this Script onto SFCFix and release.

I apologize that this is not going smoothly, but it appears there is something blocking this script from running properly on my machine.
This is my office laptop with Malwarebytes and Carbon Black installed, neither which can be completely disabled with my current permissions.
I tried running it in safe mode, but as I suspected, no luck there either. No matter what, I get the following (username x'd out):

PowerCopy::
Failed to find any content under directory "°C:\Users\xxxxx\Desktop\Packages" in line "°C:\Users\xxxxx\Desktop\Packages C:\windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing [DIR]".
PowerCopy:: directive completed successfully.

The Packages folder is definitely present on the desktop and has content.

If there is no other way to perform this task, I will reach out to my IT contact to see about temporarily disabling these services (if you believe this to be the issue).
If it seems silly I would be seeking help here instead of them, it's because from experience, they will either not be able to solve anything or just nuke my machine/"upgrade" me to Windows 10 and I will lose a couple days of work.

UPDATE: Was able to completely disable both MB and CB now, but still getting the same results.

That means you did not carry out the steps correctly. It appears that the Packages folder from my zip is not on your Desktop.

I don't see how that's possible. The original SFCFix.zip, extracted Packages folder, SFCFix.exe and the last SFCFix.txt you sent are all sitting on my desktop (the latter which gets overwritten every time I run the script).
If I browse to the path specified in the script "C:\Users\xxxxx\Desktop\Packages" in Windows Explorer, it pulls up the folder and shows the contents.
No non-standard characters in my username or anything like that either.

UPDATE: Just copied the files to the desktop of a spare laptop in the same fashion and was able to at least get the script to run correctly and ask if I want to proceed.
Not sure what the issue is here but will investigate.

OK I can't figure out why it won't run. What's strange is, if I try to run it again on my spare laptop, I now get the same exact error in the log file there too.
This other laptop is also Win7 Pro, but with a lot less software installed. However, it has the same Windows customizations, so possibly one of my tweaks is preventing it from running properly (although I can't imagine what).
I can copy the path right from the SFCFix.txt with the %variable names% (as well as from the resulting log file with the actual names) into explorer and all 730 CAT and MUM files are there...

From the second time I tried:

SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2018-12-20 15:02:05.664
Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - amd64
Using .txt script file at C:\Users\xxxxx\Desktop\SFCFix.txt [1]

PowerCopy::
Failed to find any content under directory "°C:\Users\xxxxx\Desktop\Packages" in line "°C:\Users\xxxxx\Desktop\Packages C:\windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing [DIR]".
PowerCopy:: directive completed successfully.

This is almost as much of a head-scratcher as my WU issue.

Is there any other way to run this or retrieve the info that you need?

Do you want me to try the original method first (ZIP onto EXE) or stick with the extracted Packages folder method?
Also, do I need Safe Mode with Networking? I believe when I tried regular Safe Mode previously, the script halted because it could not check for updates.
Thank you again for your ongoing assistance with this.

Sorry to report, but same errors as previous.

If I drop the ZIP onto the EXE, I get the error saying the ZIP file is corrupt:

Stumped.

I'm seeing something strange here:

°C:\Users\xxxxx\Desktop\Packages C:\windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing [DIR]

That symbol could be the cause of the issue.

I noticed that too but it's been in every script file you've attached, so I thought it was something for PowerCopy.

Just took out that character and seems to run fine now. Will go through the steps again and post results when completed.
