Hello.
After what seems like endless googling I finally found this place.
My Windows 7 fails to install the November Security Rollup KB4467107 with error 80073701.
I did everything from the instructions.

Here goes:

CBS.zip - Google Drive
(One file called CBS.log could not be accessed and is missing from the zip)

If possible, I'd actually like to know what exactly is wrong with my machine.
It's the first windows issue I could not solve myself. Any help is much appreciated!

Hello and welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put
    Code:
tags around the log to break up the text.

Hello and thanks for your assistance.
SFCFix says the zip is corrupted, I tried to download it several times. Maybe you just need to re-upload it?

Sorry, forgot to attach the output.
I also tried doing it from within a fresh folder on c:\, same result.

I deactivated my Avast Antivirus, Defender is not enabled on my system.
Sadly the result is the same. I can manually unzip the fix without an issue.
Rezipping it with either Winrar or Windows does not help either.

Can I perform the fix manually, i.e. copying the contents by hand?

Please download the attached file.

Once done, extract it to your Desktop (extremely important!)
Drag SFCFix.txt onto the SFCFix.exe and release.
Wait for the script to complete.
You may be asked to reboot. Please reboot if so.
On the next boot, SFCFix.txt will open. Please copy the contents into your next reply.

It worked this time, but it did not ask for a reboot.
Here's what showed after the script was done:

Seems like it could not find anything.
Isn't KB4338819 a Win10 Update?

Yes, but for some reason your system appears to think that it is missing. Have you attempted to upgrade at one point?

No, never, 100% sure.
Strange that this becomes an issue now, after years of updating without the slightest problems.

In case you are talking about the KB4467107 November Rollup - it still fails with error unknown 80073701.
CBS.log is uploaded here due to being >100MB: CBS.log - Google Drive

I then tried the November preview KB4467108 that became available a few days ago, same result. You want the CBS.log of that aswell?

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
6. Try updates and if any fail, attach CBS.log.
