Hello! Can I please ask the group's help? I am getting error 0x800706be when trying to install KB5032190 via Windows update in Win11 x64. Feeling very defeated by this one. I tried doing a Windows 11 upgrade in place using the ISO from Microsoft, but the option to retain files is grayed out. I also can't seem to figure a way around the DISM error 1726. Would greatly appreciate some advice. Thanks for your time!!!

Step #1 - Run SFC Scan

C:\Windows\System32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

Step #2 - Run SURT/DISM

C:\Windows\System32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.22621.1

Image Version: 10.0.22621.2428

[===========================55.3% ]
Error: 1726

The remote procedure call failed.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Step #3 - Run ComponentsScanner

Done - ComponentsScanner.txt is attached

Step #4 - Export CBS Folder

Done - CBS.zip is attached

Thank you!!!!

Hi,

Great, please perform step 2 as well and post the result after running the System File Checker.

Thanks for pointing that out :)

It looks like it worked!! See below. That is amazing. Thank you.

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

This looks good, so please attempt to update again and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Unfortunately KB5032190 failed again with 0x800706be. I rebooted and tried again. Here are the new logs. Thanks again

Please attempt to update again with the Installation Assistant for Windows 11.

Download the
61c988c2082b1-updateassistent.png
Windows 11 Installation Assistant to your desktop.
  • Right-click on Windows11InstallationAssistant.exe and select the option: Run as administrator.
  • Press the Update now button, click after the compatibility check on Next.
  • The Update Assistant will now download the latest Feature Update.
  • After verifying the download, the Feature Update will be installed.
  • When this process is ready, click on the Restart now button to complete the installation.

Thanks - it's cranking along very slowly. I think I accidentally did a full Win11 upgrade reinstall. When I clicked next I thought it would prompt me with options, but it just went for it. I'll report back when it is done.

The Installation Assistant will only install build 23H2 and upgrade your current build. So yes, it is an upgrade but not a repair install / in-place upgrade.

Hi, it's at 99% installing, about 30 hours later. It took about 5-7 hours just to reach 99% as it slowly ticked, 91, 92 etc. Think it's still doing something?

Hi,

I would suggest to wait, if the installation process fails before the first reboot the tool will show an error. However, could you please check the amount of free space on the system drive? And does this system match the minimum requirements to run Windows 11, or is there a tweak used to upgrade to Windows 11 in the past?

Thanks, I will wait! It should all be within spec - plenty of space on C: (an SSD). It's a Ryzen 5 desktop with 32gb -- maybe 2 years old.

Hi! Can I please ask some more advice on this (and sorry for the delay -- work got in the way).

The installation assistant never got past 99%. I let it run about three days. After that didn't stop, I rebooted and tried it again, and it stuck again at 99%. I also tried using Win11_23H2_English_x64 (thinking I'd mount as a drive and do an upgrade in place). That did not work either, it got stuck on "Making sure you're ready to install" and it never even reached the page where it prompts me to ask what type of install I want.

I redid steps 1-4 and attached the logs below. Thanks for any thoughts!
