Hi,

I absolutely need help! My Windows 10 seems to be disfunktional. I'm on Version 14292.576 and Windows Update doesn't work anymore.

Running SFC I get the message: [h=1]"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"[/h]I tried every parameter ( scanhealth, RestoreHealth, scannow, verifyonly). Verifyonly brings no error up, as well as scanhealth. The other show the message from above.
DISM won't work either, it crashes at 4,5%

I tried both in Windows itself and of an USB Stick -> same result.

Then I tried an in Place Upgrade to creators Update. The installation crashes at arround 18% and after that restores my previous version.

Next I tried sfcfix. It crashes with:

AutoAnalysis::
WARNING: Failed to check store directories with return code 1 and error code ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND. COMPONENTS hive may be corrupt.

WARNING: Components hive failed load test and may be corrupt.

WARNING: Components hive failed final reload test with error code ERROR_BADDB and may be corrupt.

I tried everything in Safemode and Cleanboot.

Can somebody PLS help me? A fresh Windows install is no option at this point, because it's crutial for my graduation. There are programs and data I could not reinstall. Is there anyway to repair the system?

If it helps i can upload my components file etc.

Thanks in advance, I'm desperate

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. Do you still need assistance? So we are meeting expectations I also wanted to let you know that I will be on vacation until May 10th. There are other helpers that may pick up the this thread but if they don't you can expect a response on the 10th or 11th at the latest.

Please let me know however if you still need assistance and I'll check back in at that time.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for your response! I still need help desperately the system seems to be unstable, and I would like to fix it to the point at which I can upgrade to the creators update. I thought that would solve all issus... maybe. It's really ok to wait, the problem won't run away. The system "has" to survive as long, as it takes :) Thank you, for helping me!

Please start with the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

It was really nice, thank you. Please do the following.

Step#1 - Replace Manually
1. Download COMPONENTS2.ZIP and save to your desktop.
2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
3. Now we have the COMPONENTS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
5. Right-click on the current COMPONENTS file and select rename. Rename it to COMPONENTS.bad2.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
6. Take the file from the Components2 folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config
