The last time I remember update working properly was February.
I tried running "sfc /scannow" but it gave me error "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"
I tried:
1. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth but it tells me the component store has been corrupted
2. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth but it tells me the component store has been corrupted

When I run SFCFix it gives error:14098 the component store has been corrupted.

Hi BrianDrab, thank you for the welcome.
Yes I'm still in need of assistance. I do hope you can help.

Please start with the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Hi BruianDrab,
Sorry for the late reply, I've been away on my holiday.
I leave my computer switched on most of the time and whilst I was away windows somehow managed to update to the latest version 1703. An old saying, a watched kettle never boils.
Do you want me to still post components hive, or wait to see if its fixed itself, I can post a new thread if it has problems.
