Hi there. This is a Toshiba Dynabook laptop 64bit, 500GB hard drive with 3 partitions (boot, system, recovery), 6GB ddr3. After exhausting my options to recover this disk in WinRE using the hard drive or win 10 usb, i moved to frst64.exe Attached is my latest frst.txt I already did CHKDSK on this drive as necessary. Attempted some fixes with the previous frst scans. But this issue still remains, which is why I'm here. In the beginning of frst.txt there is this warning about the SOFTWARE hive not loaded. Even trying to copy this SOFTWARE hive file elsewhere didn't work. Copying would fail few seconds after start. I'm believing a rootkit/bootkit is behind this. 'Cause I looked at this SOFTWARE file in hex editor till the end and there's data. So I think the file is good. But I find it weird as it is 80MB! is this normal? The other big hive is SYSTEM about 20MB. That one and any other hive copy just fine. Please look at this frst log. Tell me if there is hope and what to do. Etonam

boot problems are too often rooted in the BCD ( Boot Configuration Data) file misconfiguration.
first question is do you boot in legacy mode or in UEFI?

in your FRST file is already answer what the problem is!
under BCD:
"Impossible d'ouvrir le magasin des donn‚es de configuration de d‚marrage.
Le fichier ouvert n'est plus valide car le volume qui le contient a ‚t‚ endommag‚ de maniŠre externe."

in English:
(Unable to open the boot configuration data store.
The opened file is no longer valid because the volume containing it has been externally damaged.)

...and with that nothing goes!

the boot drive, assumed is C:, has typically five partitions:
a Microsoft reserved NTFS partition, typically around 120 MB
a restore NTFS partition of some 500 to 700 MB
if a UEFI system, which most are these days, a FAT32 boot partition of about 100 MB
the actual drive C NTFS partition, the largest one, where all your apps and stuff is, the size depending on the overall size of your drive.
and usually also a NTFS recovery partition of around 600-700 MB

The warning "software-hive not loaded" refers to the registry and all references therein to any and all apps.
No go if that's missing as the data therein is specific mostly to all the apps and configurations in the system!
the size is nothing unusual.
same applies for the system-hive which holds the registry entries for the system itself. no go if that's missing

hope you have a good backup somewhere and not have irrevocably messed up too much already by meddling around trying to fix it!
the BCD can be rebuilt but there are a few things that need to be known first.
