Hi!
Until January 2017 all Windows 10 Updates on this laptop (a Toshiba Pentium which we upgraded from Windows 7 this past summer) were successful - first try. Then, when Windows tried to install the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3201845)", this and certain subsequent Windows updates (KB3206632, KB890830, KB3213986) began to fail. The only Windows update that has been successful since Jan 1 was "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016 x64 Edition KB890830" on January 7 AND 13.
And, possibly because these downloads are huge (nearly 1G), web navigation and computer performance slowed to a virtual standstill perhaps during automatic download and installation attempts (Even though it appears that these installs should have taken place when the computer wasn't being used). The mouse would freeze for minutes at a time.
Last night I ran chkdsk C: /r successfully - although it did hang for hours at 11%. Today the computer is running very smoothly, with no obvious performance issues. But, the Windows update failed again this morning.
I've since discovered your website, and I'm hopeful and intrigued.
I've run the SFCFix.exe, but it crashed. - "stage 1 of 6 failed on server". The error report was sent. Nice report message "something has gone horribly wrong" :smile9:
Not sure if this is related, but around the same time as the updates stopped, the laptop began experiencing problems starting up - where the screen would remain dark grey after the initial windows icon and spinning wheel. We discovered that this can be worked around by pressing the power button, closing the lid, then reopening the lid.
Thanks for looking into this - we greatly appreciate it!
