[SOLVED] Win10 1803 will not install any new rollup

I'm having a problem with a PC where I cannot install any new update rollup. The PC is stuck at build 17134.165 (July-ish).

Currently, 2018-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4462919) fails with Error 0x800703f1
I also tried updating to 1809 (the re-released one) from the ISO and the update tool, but it reverts back to the old version after failing to install.

I've tried the Windows update troubleshooter tool, clearing the Software distro and Catroot folders manually, but nothing helps.

sfc /scannow returns:

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

With these errors we first have to check whether there is an underlying hardware issue.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

• Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
• Execute gsmartcontrol.exe; Let the install complete and launch the programme.
• Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
• Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
• Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
• Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;

Thanks for the suggestion. I had checked the SMART status of the drive, and everything was fine. I gave up and reinstalled everything from scratch. The PC is happy again now. Feel free to close this thread.
