Hello and welcome!

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

  • Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
  • Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
  • Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.

Thanks very much for the suggestion, no issues shown via GSmartControl, output was

Thanks very much, Kev

Thanks.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.

  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.

  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Afterwards, run DISM again and attach CBS.log.

Thanks for the message, SFCFix only partially worked, log attatched. DISM didn't get any further than last time, log attatched.

Still no luck, no errors found in a couple of runs of chkdsk and still getting the error running sfcfix.

I can view / change the permissions of all the files in C:\WINDOWS\Servicing\Packages\ apart from Package_2075_for_KB4493464~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.5.cat - where is says security info unavaliable or can not be displayed.

Boot from a recover cd and try and delete that file maybe?

Thanks
Kev

Let's try this:

Restart Windows in Safe Mode w/networking.

Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable

  • Extract the tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio.zip to c:\Windows\TEMP the zip will extract to a folder called Tweaking.com - Windows Repair
  • Execute the file Repair_Windows.exe from the Tweaking.com - Windows Repair folder, accept the Security warning and the EULA
  • Click the button Jump To Repairs
  • Click the Open Repairs button to access the following screen:
    WindowsRepair.png
  • Click the box All Repairs to uncheck all the boxes
  • Check only the following boxes:
    • 1 - Reset Registry Permissions
    • 2 - Reset File Permissions
  • Check the box Restart/Shutdown System When Finished > Restart System
  • Click the Start Repairs button
  • When the system reboots, attempt the fix again.

I rebooted to rescue mode, did a full chkdsk/spotfix c: a /sdcleanup and a /r an no errors.

I went into safe mode and did reset reg and reset file, which worked fine. but I still get:

Failed to copy file C:\Users\Luke\AppData\Local\niemiro\Archive\Packages\Package_2075_for_KB4493464~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.5.cat to C:\WINDOWS\Servicing\Packages\Package_2075_for_KB4493464~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.5.cat with error code ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED.

I ran the script in safe mode, here's the ouput, but looking at the file I still see the same error as in the screenshot above.

Let's try the following:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Hi!

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.

6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.
