Hello everyone!

My server running Windows Server 2019 build 17763.5122 had a problem installing CU and restoring OS.
sfc /scannow stops with error - "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation".
dism /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth stops with error 1009 - "The configuration registry databse is corrupt".

I downloaded ComponentScanner from this forum and ran it. The result is in attachment.
I've been trying to figure out what exactly the problem is for two weeks. Maximum backup already has this problem, rollback is impossible.

You have a corrupt database.

Run ComponentScanner again, and when it prompts you whether you want it to repair or not, let it perform the repair.

When finished try updating ....

If successful please let me know.

If not, please do the following ....

1. Post the latest ComponentScanner log.

2.
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the ... C:\Windows\Logs\CBS ... folder.
  • Right click on it, and select ... Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder
  • A message will appear stating, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
    • Answer Y to create a folder CBS.zip on your Desktop.
  • Please attach it to your next post.
    • If the file is too large, please upload it to a file sharing service and provide the link to it in your next reply.
    • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Hi, Gary!

After restore, SFC and DISM worked correctly.
The updates were also installed.
I'll check it on a real server soon.

Thank you!

You're welcome.

Just so you know, the corruption of your Components hive was due to a mismatch of two sequence numbers in the hive's file header. This causes the hive not to load.

ComponentScanner checks for this, and when it finds a mismatch it will offer to fix the problem.
