Win 8 Core Upgrade to Win 8.1

Can WIN 8 Core ver 6.2 build 9200 be upgraded to Win 8.1? I have an HP Notebook g6 w/ installed Win 8 from factory. Selected upgrade to WIN 8.1 via the MS store and guess what....win will not start after install......display is hp logo and "spinning wheel". I am t/s now but interested in this question. Other PCs w/ Win 8 Pro, no problem w/ upgrade to Win Pro 8.1. Thx ....best support forum around so you guys must know this answer.

You should be able to upgrade from 8 to 8.1 - Update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 - Windows Help

Reset your system to factory default setting using the HDD recovery partition and try the upgrade again.
