Hello, helpful people - I could sure use some help!
My Windows 8.1 desktop has been repeatedly unable to boot. Each time it gets a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA blue screen, "collects error info" to 100%, then needs to be power-cycled to restart again.
About every third or fourth attempt, it offers me the Recovery screen, with the "See Advanced Repair Options" and "Restart my PC" buttons.
A bit of history:
A couple of years ago, it used to get this same repeated error quite regularly when booting. At that time, selecting the Restart button on the Recovery screen would often get the machine back up and running (and if not, after a few more tries it would eventually work). Once running it was stable (at least, no crashes) - the error only happened when rebooting.
At some point, I'd say at least a year ago, the problem went away, and the computer has been mostly rebooting trouble-free ever since. Until now.
This morning I started a routine reboot ... and now I'm getting this repeated error, and so far have been unable to get past it. Unlike two years ago, so far the Restart button option, when presented, just leads back to the same blue screen and error.
Consequently, I've been trying some of the recovery options. I booted into the command prompt option, a very limited mode. I was able to start up Task Manager, and run a few basic troubleshooting commands, but a lot of things wouldn't run in that mode. For example, I tried (3 times) to run "perfmon / report" for your requested diagnostics. The Perfmon window started up, but remained empty (all white). I ran it on my Windows 7 computer (the one I'm on now) just to see what it was supposed to do, and here it ran just fine. I tried to run Nirsoft BluescreenView, but got an error message - something about not having the correct resources available or something. So I was pretty sure your BSOD tools weren't going to work either.
Right now I've booted it into UEFI mode, and am running system tests from there. So far everything's passing.
I'd love to get you your required diagnostics, but I'm going to need some help even getting to a place where I can run them.
Please advise. Until I hear from you, I'll keep working my way through the recovery options and see what I can learn, test, or fix. I do have restore points, etc, so I can go that route if I need to. I do not have any kind of recovery drive or other place to boot from, but the standard Win 8 recovery options are all available.
Thanks so much! Happy Easter, Happy Passover, Happy Everything.
I hope you can help.
