Win 8.1>10 upgrade fails, DISM can't find sources

Attempting to upgrade to Win10 on laptop. Here are steps taken so far:

1. Upgrade from USB boot (error: Cannot continue because Windows already installed)
2. Upgrade from inside Windows (gets to light blue progress screen, but eventually reboots to Win 8.1)
3. DISM cannot find sources, does not finish. Tried pointing it to current 8.1 ISO sources folder as mounted drive, and to original 8.1 install disc, neither works)
4. SFC finds no violations
5. SFCfix cannot finish due to DISM issue

Try the upgrade again and report the result.
 
Ran setup from inside OS, got following Application Error:
"The instruction at 0x73d3e611 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read."

Setup terminated.
 
That's a general error.
Did you disable the realtime-protection of your security programs (antivirus/antimalware) ?
Did you ever got this kind of error earlier ?
 
Disabled Malware protection and firewall. Have not seen this error before.
It previously got well into the upgrade process before locking up or rebooting, now only gets as far as the initial "preparing" screen before giving error.
 
ChkDsk Scan
  • Right-click the Start button and click Commandprompt (Run as administrator).
  • A window appears. Typ CHKDSK and press the enter key.
  • Wait until CHKDSK is finished.
  • Download ListChkdskResult.exe by SleepyDude and save it on your desktop.
  • Rightclick

    ListChkdskResult.exe and click Run as administrator. On completion the tool will save a textfile called ListChkdskResult.txt on your desktop.
  • Attach this text file to your next reply.
 
SFC Scan
  1. Right-click the Start button and select Command Prompt (administrator).
  2. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  3. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
    Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Filedropper or One Drive and just provide the download link.
 
FRST Scan:
  1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
    64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
  2. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  3. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  6. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.
 
Step 1: Update Java
Open this web page to download the latest version. Click 'Free Java Download' and then 'Agree and Start Free Download'.
Download the installer jxpiinstall.exe and run it.
Click Install and then Install>.
Warning: You may get a choice to install additional software and/or allow to change your browser settings. Uncheck all that!
If you get a pop-up saying "Out-of-date Java versions detected.", click Uninstall>. This will remove the outdated Java versions.

Step 2:
Is AVG still installed ?
Is PuranDefrag still installed ?
 
Java Updated.
Revo and Control Panel did not list AVG or Puran as presently installed.
 
Step 1:
Download the AVG Remover.
Note: Disable the realtime-protection of your antivirus program.
Start the downloaded AVG_Remover.
Click Continue.
The program searches for AVG products and displays them in a list.
Select all AVG products found and remove them.
Follow the instructions given and reboot the machine when instructed to.

Step 2:
Uninstall:
- Glary Utilities 5.103
- Smart Defrag 6
- Spybot Anti-Beacon
- Visual Studio 2012 x64 Redistributables
- Visual Studio 2012 x86 Redistributables
Reboot the machine.

Step 3:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.
