Hi everyone!

I have seen people here who have been helped with very similar issues, so I do hope I will finally get rid of this problem.

Today, I tried installing the origin client in order to install a game. The client installed but when I tried to open it, I received an error message saying "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0-dll missing". To solve this, I tried reinstalling the Visual C++ redistributable 2015, but ran into a problem here again. After much frustration, I figured the problem was me not having installed SP1. This is where it went from frustrating to infuriating - I could not get it to work. Here is what I tried:

  • Installing from windows updater. Error found: code 80073712 (unknown error)
  • windows update troubleshooting (run as admin)
  • Downloading SP1 from Microsoft. It runs to pretty much exactly halfway then stalls for a long time, then cancels.
  • downloading the system update readiness tool - after a while I got that to work and will attach the checksur.log below
  • repeating all of the above in clean boot.
I do not know how to proceed from here, and I really would like to not reinstall windows.
Here are some of my specs, hopefully sufficient?
Windows 7 ultimate
Processor: Intel core i3 CPU
Ram: 4 gb
64 bit os

Thank you very much in advance!

Cheers

Laura

Hello and welcome!

Can you please export your CBS folder for me instead of copy pasting the logs? It will be much easier for me to work with that.

Thanks.

Please also include the following in your reply:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service and just provide the link here.

Hi, thank you for your reply!

By CBS logs, do you mean the Checksur.Log file? I can attach that, will do so as soon as I get home.

Absolutely perfect. Thank you!

Additional problems after SP1 installation - Windows doesnt update anymore

Hi again.

After I was helped so swiftly and wonderfully just this morning, I already ran into my next problem.

As in my previous thread explained, I had to install SP1 in order to install a game client which I did. The client did indeed install and run, however the game itself didnt, again due to a VC++ problem. I did reinstall some of them, however also saw that Windows Update wanted to install 160 new important updates (?!) after someone in the games forum suggested that one specific security update might be the problem (i do not have that specific update installed, yet anyways, but I guess being up to date is going to bring be a step further to finally installing the game.)

So, when I tried to install the new updates, it got stuck. After multiple restarts and deleting of the softwaredistribution contents, I tried to run the Update Readiness Tool again, but this wouldnt initiate but "check for updates on this computer" for the longest time.

So maybe someone can help me again? Thank you so much in advance!

I will include the logs and so on in the next post.

Cheers

Laura
