Hi

I am having error 80073712 when installing Windows update today, and read about KB3022345 causing two corrupted files found in the CBS.log from Sfc /scannnow. So I uninstalled KB3022345 but that didn't help. So I tried your tip using the SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip and managed to get the corrupted two files for x64 machine fixed.

I then re-ran Sfc /scannow which did not find any more corrupted file in the CBS.log, although there is a warning message -

2015-06-10 12:36:09, Info CBS Session: 30450612_3011932035 initialized by client WindowsUpdateAgent.
2015-06-10 12:36:09, Info CBS Warning: Unrecognized packageExtended attribute.

2015-06-10 12:36:09, Info CBS Warning: Unrecognized packageExtended attribute.

I am still unable to install 4 critical windows 7 updates without hitting the same error 80073712 I got prior fixing the corrupted files. I also tried MS System Update Readiness Tool to no avail. The only thing I have not tried is perform Windows repair suggested by MS.

The 4 Windows 7 updates that cant be installed are
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2992611)
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3004375)
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3011780)
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3031432)

Any suggestion what I can do next - other than run Windows 7 setup disk to repair Windows suggested by MS ?

Thanks in advance

Please upload C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log and sfcfix.txt.

Hi I am unable to upload the cbs.log even after zipping it . the size is 21,013 kb. The file upload manager will just try for a few moments then give up without uploading it or give any error. I uploaded the other two files you asked.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. If you are still in need of assistance, please do the following.

Step#1 - Fix Corrupt/Missing Files
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files). If the Manifests folder doesn't exist within Winsxs you will need to create it.
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files). If the Packages folder doesn't exist within Servicing you will need to create it.
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, zip up and attach the following log file:
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

Hi BrianDrab, thanks for your post, I meant to post on the forum I got the issue resolved prior to seeing your post but didn't get around to. Nonetheless, your effort to help is much appreciated.

To help other forum readers, I did the following to resolve the issue :

Control panel > Troubleshoot computer problems > System and Security > Fix problems with Window update > Windows update > Advanced
Check "Apply repairs automatically" box, click next and let the repair process run to its completion.

When the repair process is done, click on the hyper link provided to open Windows Update to re-run the previously failed updates.

In my case the repair process nailed and fixed the issue for me. Yay ! :thumbsup2: It may or may not help others who have trouble installing their Windows updates, but since it is a non invasive built-in tool from Windows, I think there is no harm giving it a try. I learned about this Windows tool from watching a video posted by Britec (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WSsy60kYQQ)
Thanks again for your effort to help BrianDrab, Cheers. :beerchug2:
