Hi dxc0chappie :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. Follow the instructions below please.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

SFC reports only one file as corrupt, so we'll replace it.

Alright SFC returned a clean log. Let's make sure it's the same for SURT.

Can you give me the KB number of the update you're trying to install?

Edit: Is it still the KB2596787?

I assume that you have Office 2007 installed then?

It seems like this is a specific error to that update. Follow the solution below please (have your product key for Office 2007 ready just in case).

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...80070663/133d4b82-084a-48c9-a148-20dddbad53c1

Error code 80070663
What I did to remedy this situation with Windows Vista home basic:
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to c:/users/Allusers/Microsoft/Office/data
and rename the opa12.dat file to opa12old.dat
When I restarted Microsoft Office 2007 and attempted to open one of my saved files, it asked me to activate
Microsoft Office. I selected the activate online and shortly thereafter, the program was activate (thank you for activating this copy of Office).
I then attempted to run the 7 updates to Microsoft office I was having problems with and all 7 went through.

That was my next suggestion. Either reinstall it, or run a Repair on it.

An uninstall, disk clean and reinstall seems to have sorted it now. KB259787 install now succeeds (along with about 20 others) and system is up to date.
Thanks for the assistance.
