I get error 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 "The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation.

Within the Panther directory\CompatData I found
<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem26.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem24.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem1.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem34.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem59.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem62.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem76.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem67.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem60.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem0.inf"/>

<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem22.inf"/>

From Windows\INF I have established that the final two items (oem0 & oem22) relate to Windows XPS writer whilst the remaining drivers are all Nvidia drivers.

I have attempted to remove Windows XPS. However, it is not listed as a device in Devices\Printers. I have unselected XPS Services & XPS Viewer in Programs additional features but this made no difference. I also downloaded a bespoke tool to remove said items but the oem files are still listed in Windows\INF.

Regarding Nvidia I uninstalled the drivers via devmgmt.msc but this only removed oem63. Next I uninstalled the Nvidia GeForce GT430 completely but this only further removed oem76. (I Have since reinstalled the graphics card and oem63 and 76 are back). The offending drivers are in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\DeviceCompat\Drivers.
Within Programs and Features I have six entries beginning MSXML 4.0 and I'm notsure if these are safe to remove.

I had of course checked for updated Nvidia drivers, but the Win10 drivers I will require cannot be installed under Win 7.

I would add that I uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials prior to trying to upgrade but have since re-installed it for the time being.

Can you please help me to eradicate Windows XPS and all traces of my Nvidia drivers?
Thank you.

I have found a way to remove the driver files that generated the BlockMigration="True" messages. I downloaded Release DriverStore Explorer v0.10.58 and deleted the specific driver files.

However, attempting to upgrade my Win 7 Home 64bit SP1 to Windows 10 still fails with error 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 "The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation.

I have re-run diagnostics as recommended and note that SFCfix no longer has
"CBS & SFC total detected corruption count: 3" it is now zero
but it does still have
"SURT total detected corruption count: 12"

CheckSUR within CBS lists 6 CSI Manifest Missing & 6 CSI C Mark Deployment Missing all relating to Avast which is a Program that was (supposedly) removed from my PC many moons ago.

The entries that were previously in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\DeviceCompat\Drivers are no longer present ( as I would expect)

I have attached the replacement SFCfix file and CBS CBS.zip

Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Further to the last post...

There are three folders containing "avast" in C:\Windows\winsxs

amd64_avast.vc140.crt_fcc99ee6193ebbca_14.0.24210.0_none_56aba0211ca246c2
x86_avast.vc140.crt_fcc99ee6193ebbca_14.0.24210.0_none_9e58d6f8311e6fc8
x86_avast.vc140.mfc_fcc99ee6193ebbca_14.0.24210.0_none_a338d8ea2df29efb

All three folders are empty. Last modified 13 Jan 2020 when I last tried a Win 10 upgrade.

These problems seems to be related to leftover traces of Avast.
As my CheckSUR log showed multiple Avast related errors - previously deleted Avast 2 years ago -I ran Avastclear.exe but the same errors remained.

I read a suggestion to re-install Avast and then delete again. I did and was left with different errors.
CheckSUR (file attached) show 8 entries of CSI C Mark Deployment Not Marked.

There are entries in winsxs\Manifest corresponding to the errors. Screenshot attached.

Also I ran a registry scan for Avast showing in particular
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\amd64_avast.vc140.crt_fcc99ee6193ebbca_none_020285fe6d6e0580]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\amd64_policy.14.0.avast.vc140.crt_fcc99ee6193ebbca_none_ef17e13d91c55d96]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\amd64_policy.14.0.avast.vc140.mfc_fcc99ee6193ebbca_none_eea141d5921f913b]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\x86_avast.vc140.crt_fcc99ee6193ebbca_none_49afbcd581ea2e86]

My question is "What's the best way to clean up my system"?
I can't delete\move the files from winsxs (Or can I?). Is it OK to just delete the registry keys (after making a backup) and run SURT again?
Or is there a far simpler way?

Hi!

Please run the following fix and retry the upgrade.

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Thanks for the response.

The response seems to indicate that I can try the upgrade to win 10 again?

Suspecting that the SURT corruptions are the same as previously I ran SURT which produced a CheckSUR with the same errors as in post #4.

I've also zipped a copy of the cbs.log from after scannow and before SURT https://drive.google.com/open?id=1XdPNVu4htW_1N_XJPAMayLf9v_Xls8Nc

I've also attached another search Reg for Avast which has the same 8 entries as previously.

The Windows\winsxs folder contains the same Avast entries as in the jpg attached in post #4.

Avast is irrelevant here.

Please do the following:

SFCFixScript.txt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
 5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.
There is a driver issue:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Thanks once again.
Output files attached.

In my ignorance I assumed that if a driver was a problem it would generate an entry in CompatData in Panther such as
<DriverPackage HasSignedBinaries="False" BlockMigration="True" Inf="oem_nn.inf"/> where _nn is the oem number.

Thank God I have someone who knows what they're doing assisting me - I'd be struggling otherwise!!

CompatData file also shown for curiosity value. I also have FRST.txt and addition.txt from when I ran it on 23rd Jan if required for comparison (I think I ran it to see if anything blinding obvious popped out to alert me).

Further to running your fix in post #15 - with the results shown above, I notice that there are references to Zonealarm.
I have attached an extract from Programs & Features with three entries for Zonealarm - one of which was only installed today?
As I don't use Zonealarm I'm happy to uninstall these programs. Just say the word.
