After having problems with win7 installation of SP1 (online updater) (corrupt files found not fixed by sfc), I started over from
scratch...

Laptop, HP DV9700
Removed a memory stick so Laptop only had 2GB installed (people reported problems with 4GB)

Installed Retail Upgrade Windows 7 from CD, formatting C: in the process
Activated Win 7 online
Installed only Firefox Browser with Lastpass addon
Performed all online updates only up to SP1 (138 or 141 updates)
Downloaded SP1 Standalone from Microsoft, burned to DVD, and saved to HD
Downloaded SURT - Windows6.1-KB947821-v32-x64, saved to HD
Ran SFC - no integrity violations
Ran SURT - no problems found
Clean Boot
Disabled IE9
Started Installation of Standalone Win 7 SP1, output:
"Installation was not successful
"ERROR_INVALID_DATA(0x8007000d)
Ran SURT - no errors
Ran SFC - no integrity violations

I'm about to boot the system through the window! Any advice?

CBS folder attached. Thanks!

Update! After threatening the laptop with defenestration, I turned off selective boot, rebooted, played spider solitaire for an hour, and told it to do the online SP1 update. Son of a *****! It took. I don't know what was the problem, but it isn't there now. Oh, 2 days ago, I did run spinrite on the HD. No bad sectors. So, as a famous actress/comedienne once said, "NEVERMIND"!

Hello snick, welcome to Sysnative!

Thanks for letting us know this is fixed! I've marked your thread as solved.

The problems that fix themselves are our favourite ones! Glad you didn't have to resort to seeing how well your laptop bounced.
