Glad to find this resource. Have been from one end of the web to the other looking for solutions. Found SFCFix.exe and went through it as it is laid out and am left with this diagnosis. Would someone assist in helping me resolve these corrupted file issues.
Would appreciate any any assistance offered. Thanks.

Hello and welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

It's fine. The fix went through okay. Please try updates now and attach CBS.log if it fails.

The log will be located in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Make sure you copy it to desktop before zipping it up.

There were 4 updates that needed to be installed. Downloaded all. Initiated install about 3:30 pm cst, roughly 17 hours ago. Install process never progressed past installing 1 of 4. I rebooted out of it. Attached is cbs log file. Thanks again for your assistance.

Attempted in clean boot state , Choked on 1st update which was a ms rollup where it seems to get to a point and then seems to meet resistance with no further progress. I attempted clean boot install via stand alone installer with the same result. I did however yesterday get one update to stick though it was not a rollup. All of the updates in the queue presently are rollups.

update screen shot attached. this has been a long lived problem, well since roll ups came on the scene, at least that is what I connect it to. i finally concluded I had to try to remedy it.

Attached is progress 2.25 hrs into update. It achieved this level of progress in first 15 minutes of update. Has not moved since. Seems to be stalled? Maybe upgrade to Win 8.1. Would like Win 7 until it loses Microsoft support but also desire to apply MS updates although it seems that it just doesn't want to accommodate . In you experience, is this a current prevalent problem of Win 7 with no apparent solution. I did install Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - August 2018 (KB890830) Installation date: ‎8/‎16/‎2018 10:59 AM by selecting single selection update.

No, there is something very strange going on here and I would like to investigate more. If nothing else helps, I'd recommend an upgrade to Windows 10, but we have some other steps to try before that.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer Yes. Note: It could take 30 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service and just provide the link here.
