Good morning. I noticed that I had updates that needed to be installed, but each time I try to reinstall they finish with an error 0x800703f1.

I have run the SFC Scan, DISM Scan, SFCFix and I'm coming back with "configuration registry database is corrupt.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to review.

I have installed Media Creation Tool and ran, but it came back with an error:

We Couldn't Install Windows 10
0x8007001F - 0x300D
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation

I then disabled Windows updater, restarted and renamed the SoftwareDistribution with .old and then ran update. Still to no luck. I'm still getting the following:

2018-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4093105) - Error 0x800703f1

2018-04 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4093110) - Error 0x800703f1

Thank you for the reply. I do need help still! I was hoping something besides a fresh install would be available.

We will see if that's the case.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload toa file sharing service and just provide the link here.

At first glance nothing seems off.

Let's dig a bit deeper.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Open an elevated Command Prompt and run Windows Updates just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log

I have attached the CBS file and the Logfile links. I'm now getting a different error code when trying to update.

• 2018-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4103727) - Error 0xca00a000 (different code)

• 2018-05 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4103729) - Error 0x800703f1 (still the same)
