Win 10 update from 1809 - 1903 not working - issues with SFC and DSIM

Hi there

I have been trying to update from Win 10 1809 (Build 17763.678)to the 1903 build with no luck. Numerous attempts vis MS update with no luck. I also tried the MCT in an attempt to repair / update via USB stick with no luck.

SFCFix seems to run clean, but DSIM stops at about 41% and creates an error code 4448. -
"The WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table."

SFC stops at about the 28% point during the verifications process.

CBS files attached. Let me know if additional info is required.

Thanks very much for the help.

Mike

Hello and welcome!

This may be caused by a failing hard drive. Let's check:

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

  • Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
  • Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
  • Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.

Thanks for the quick response. I ran GSmartcontrol test last night with no issues detected. Screen capture is attached.

The computer itself was updated from Win 7 way back when Win 10 first came out. I have been pretty good with keeping it updated with no issues experienced before this. This particular SSD hard drive was cloned about a year ago from an 1 TB Western Digital HD that had been in service for a number of years. ( with no issues ). The cloning process used the WD Acronis Imaging software ( I think....) i have done at least 2 major updates (1803 and 1809) with this SSD. Hope this helps - Mike

Ran DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Results below. CSB logfile also attached.

OK, looks like progress is being made... :-) DISM ran successfully to completion. It stalled a bit around 84.5% but eventually finished. Screen capture below.

Great!

Please try the following:

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
  2. Accept the License Agreement
  3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
  4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

Hmmm.... Bad news I am afraid. The Win 10 update failed with error 0x8007-42B - 02x000D. - Failed in the Safe OS Phase with an error during the MIGRATE_DATA operation.
I have attached a screen shot of the failure message. I followed the process above and things seemed to be going well until this. Any ideas? Thx - Mike

Here is the content of the only setuperr.log file.

2019-09-09 19:47:06, Error SP CSetupPlatformOSSwitchCheckpoint::Rollback: Failed to read the rollback GUID from file: G:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Rollback\rollbackinfo.ini. Error: 0x00000002[gle=0x00000002]

The G: referred to is a portable backup drive that is connected. Should I try update again with the G: drive disconnected?

The only other Setuperr.log file that i could find was in the Windows directory and it was blank ( 0 bytes)

Thanks
Mike
