Why does explorer.exe hang and crash nearly every day? I'm using Windows 10 21H1 and it also happened on version 20H2 and 1909. Looking at Event Viewer doesn't give any significant information or signature about the errors.

Also this started happening on the first day I used my laptop after it was wiped out and reinstalled, and there was no bloatware so it doesn't seem to be due to third party software.

Here's the zip file attached.
If I was to use Process Monitor to filter the events by explorer.exe process and result not being success, in a space of 5 minutes there are 12 million events displayed. So if I was to leave my computer on for 2 days and use it normally, there would be so many events being collected in a space of 48 hours that my computer would crash.

You can filter it down to the first 30 seconds or so. If you're getting "12 million error events", then there is a serious problem with your computer rather than just Windows Explorer. Is there a pattern to the crashes though or do they appear to be random?

Looking at your Event Logs, it appears that the issue isn't isolated to explorer.exe, there are a few different programs which are hanging. Your system has had a number of different issues in the past as well, which suggests to me, that this may be more likely related to hardware.

Having said that, I've noticed that you have a number of crapware programs installed, these being:
  • Driver Booster 8
  • Driver Easy
  • Driver Talent
  • DriverFix
  • Glary Utilities 5
Please remove all of these programs, it is strongly recommended to not run system optimisers and third-party driver update programs since they usually cause more harm than good.

I would suggest running MemTest86 for at least four passes - Test RAM with PassMark MemTest86

I'm glad you managed to get your issue resolved, thanks for providing us with your solution.
