We couldn’t install Windows 10. 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 The installation failed in SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation.

Like many many people I have received the above error whilst upgrading my PC from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 (Tried several times now)

We couldn’t install Windows 10.
We’ve set your PC back to the way it was right before you started installing Windows 10.

I have removed all devices from my PC (even disconnected DVD rom and all SSD DRIVES apart from the SSD C:/drive) and my only attached devices are:
wired mouse
wired keyboard
monitor.

I have run 'MediaCreation' as Admin and downloaded as a ISO file which I mounted and ran .exe from there.

Before uploading my logs etc onto here; can I just ask should my CBS folder be as much as 50mb? please see attachment..

I must add the PC I am trying to upgrade to Windows 10 is an old hp xw6600 workstation (with updated Bios Version: 01.46 Rev. A)

I hope you guys can help me with a successful upgrade.

Forgot to add I have read this online:

'Disabling driver signature enforcement before upgrading:

If you are on Windows 7, restart your computer and press F8 before the Windows logo appears. At the “Advanced Boot Options” screen, select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement” and hit Enter.'

Is this worth trying?

Follow the instructions below please.

Step 1:
WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

• Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
• Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
  
  
• SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
• Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
• Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Step 2:
Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log.

1. Download SURT for your system. (Windows 7 SP1 x64)
2. Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go through the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes).
3. On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.
4. Attach this log to your next reply.

Check Windows Update only.
Post a screenshot of the available important updates.

As you probably know Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows 7.
You may click "Don't remind me again" in the second screenshot.
Restart the machine, check Windows Update again and post a screenshot of the available import updates.

Reboot and check for Windows Updates again.
