So hey, recently I noticed my laptops overall slowness and decided to re-install Windows. I was surprised when it didn't help, and I went through that rabbit hole of LatencyMon, modifying regestries and disabling different unused services... That didn't really help though. No matter what I do, at some point I find myself stuck with freezes, stutters when using my laptop.

I've tried different things suggested here and on other forums - re-installing different drivers, Windows itself, trying different anti-viruses installing only drivers specified by my vendor... And issue still persists.

So before I started doing this all over again and again, I just wanna ask - maybe someone can indicate for me the cause of my troubles specifically?

P.S. For xperf I used a command as provided by TomasD:
Code:
xperf -on PROC_THREAD+LOADER+PROFILE+INTERRUPT+DPC+DRIVERS+POWER+IDLE_STATES -stackwalk Profile -BufferSize 1024 -MinBuffers 256 -MaxBuffers 256 -MaxFile 256 -FileMode Circular

I also add answers to your questionary from the sticked thread:

  • Write a brief description of your problem.
Latency, stutters and freezes. I tried modyfying registries and disabling different services as pointed out here and there
  • OS ? (Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista)
    Win10
  • x86 (32bit) or x64 (64bit)?
    x64
  • (Only for xp, vista, 7) Service pack?
  • What was original installed OS on system?
    Win10
  • Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)?
    Full retail
  • Age of system? (hardware)
    5 years
  • Age of OS installation?
    1 week
  • Have you re-installed the OS?
    Yes
  • System Manufacturer?
    Acer
  • Laptop or Desktop?
    Laptop
  • Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom)
    Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43 R0FC
  • MotherBoard - (if NOT a laptop)
  • CPU
    Ryzen 5 3550H
  • RAM (brand, EXACT model, what slots are you using?)
Kingston HyperX Impact 16GB 2x8GB DDR4 SODIMM (the only 2 slots)
  • Video Card
    AMD Radeon RX 560X Series
AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics
  • Power Supply - brand & wattage (if laptop, skip this one)
  • Is driver verifier enabled or disabled?
I never used it by myself, so I guess it's disabled, but I can try that as well if that is useful (and not enabled by default)
  • What security software are you using? (Firewall, antivirus, antimalware, antispyware, and so forth)
I've tried Bitdefender Free, Avast Free, Windows Defender and now I'm using AVG Free (although with any of them the issue still persisted)
  • Are you using proxy, vpn, ipfilters or similar software?
    Tor Browser
  • Are you using Disk Image tools? (like daemon tools, alcohol 52% or 120%, virtual CloneDrive, roxio software)
Not at the moment, but usually yes
  • Are you currently under/overclocking? Are there overclocking software installed on your system?
Yes, I do use MSI Afterburner for overclocking my GPU through the AMD Adrenalin Tuning tool. I also have Ryzen Controller installed (without one my laptop uncontrollably boosts clock and the ventilators are screaming loud), and I also use ProjectLasso.

One additional note though. When I noticed the issue, originally it was the ndis.sys driver which caused the most headache. I found out googling about my specific laptop model, that the network card (Atheros QCA61x4A) may be the cause, and someone even suggested to replace it.

P.S. During my re-installing Odyssey, there was a brief period of time when my laptop blessed me with literally one evening of flawless working. As I said, I'm using Ryzen Controller for underclocking by using the settings provided in the comments of this video. It was beautiful - laptop solved tasks as knife goes through butter, while Ryzen Controller ensured stable and adequate temps and ventilators RPM. But then, after hybernation (or sleep mode, I can't really distinguish them now) or even turning off - the issue appeared again. Latency just started escalating, and here I am, wondering if maybe it's Windows forced driver installation caused it all?..

after researches done, I think that I've currently fixed my problems, with the help of the amitxv tuning guide (search for forks on github). thus, i'm closing this thread
