[W7SP1Pro x64] are permissions blocking some services? Or something else?

Hello,

there was a big crash, anyway WU was fixed. But there are some issues left.

1. Action Center shows there is no AntiSpy and Antivirus available.
But there is Microsoft Security Essentials working fine and another icon indicates about it. Action Center seems clear only when I update MSE databases until next restart. Besides I dont use and dont want to WIndows Defender, and it is mentioned with Antispy antispyware software disabled along with MSE.

2. Network and Sharing Center shows no conections, but Internet is working through WIFi. When I click the option "Connect to a network," the is no list of available wireless networks.



(Comp1) - APClient- Internet (WiFi) - Router - (Comp2)

(APClient) - LAN card - IP Settings [Auto]
(Router)
192.168.1.2
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.1

The settings has worked before it crashed. (APClient) card IP setting no difference now if there is [Auto] or manual
Can't see shared files (Comp2) even by Comp2 itself. I dont know if local network browsing is working right now, but can access area by Total Commander from Comp1

Wwansvc Error 5 in services.msc - is it in some related to the problems? I tried to change it to LocalSystem Account but popped up another error. "Access Is Denied" When trying to add wireless network - Page 6 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Ad. 1 . It seems there is no AntiSpy software except Windows Defender that gets its data from WMI. So if I want not to use Windows Defender, Action Center will show no antispyware at all. I got Antimalware Anti-Malware, but it is not linked with Action Center check. If I update MSE - Action Center shows OK for all.

So is there any better than Antimalware free AntiSpyware that could be detected by Action Center? I read that Antimalware is very good for remove threats, but it is not so good to scan for potential malware etc.

The "no anti-virus" message is common and can be disregarded.

Pretty much the same with the wifi message.

I would suggest that you run Windows System Restore - select a restore point prior to the crash.

Windows System Restore - Restore your System (Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & Vista)

Perform the system restore ASAP -- before the restore points are gone.

When you start getting access denied messages (usually 0xc0000005 error codes), something is amiss.

Any idea what caused the crash? Was it a BSOD?

The OS is 2 years old full version of Windows 7 x64 Professional without reinstall.
I use Malwarebytes software, and MSE antivirus. The OS is under protection.
Computer is connected to WIFi.


I splitted the process into two stages.

Health Report:
- Discs - OK!
- Memory - OK!


FIRST STAGE (July 2017 - September 2017):

1. OS had crashed, secondary HDD Samsung F3 dissapeared after restart - SATA cable OK!
2. OS crashes one time a week; sometimes secondary disc dissapeared.
3. WU, Audio and web browser lags - antivirus scans prevented some minor issues.
4. Windows Update was cleaned and restarted - Windows 7 SP1 Windows Update stuck checking for updates - Super User
5. OS restart loop problem - Registry restore from command line with OS Disc:

cd \windows\system32\config\regback

xcopy c:\windows\system32\config\regback c:\windows\system32\config

It seemed that Windows System Restore was not running properly....


The oldest reported BSOD - Chrome was uninstalled.

Fixed! - No crashes - no WU issues - a month later....

SECOND STAGE (November 2017)

1. Sudden major BSOD - after Restore Point - WU crash. (major bug)
2. Some minor bugs - Windows Audio disabled during start-up, disabled WMI in Action Center, Network and Sharing Center
reports wrongly that computer is not connected to Internet.
3. Try to reset WU, reinstall audio and card drivers (No yellow marks in Device Manager)
4. Sysnative expert did the job (major bug) -> [W7SP1 x64] CheckSur.log 0x80070002 - Major WU update issue after system restore.

5. Tweaking.com Windows Repair did some work (minor bugs) - custom settings



6. Manual work on services/privileges ---> Windows 7 states I'm not connected to any networks when in fact I am connected to my wireless network??

a. Open cmd.exe as administrator.
b. Type those command lines:
net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice (press enter)
net localgroup Administrators /add localservice (press enter)
c. Reboot


7. Everything is OK. WU works OK. No crashes. No lags.

Any idea what caused the crash? Was it a BSOD?

I dont rememeber all codes of BSODs. But the most dangereos for me were Boot BCD black screen issues ocassionally while BSOD.
(for example 0xc000000f or 0xc00000e9);

So I think crashes are specific driver related, but I am not sure. Look, the GPU, network card and other components were running well, and there are not so many options to update them, bacause of age. The reason why I didn't reinstall OS: unknown causes of BSOD's - no major problems during work.

I needed to determine which were causing issue. You've installed a Preview of an update and that wreaked havoc on your machine.

If that make a sense, there was WU issue from the beginning?

Anyway, let put it clear. I want to examine if problems are software or hardware related.
And how to prevent them in future - I want to upgrade my oldschool computer (GPU, monitor).

First, reinstalling the OS should always be a last resort option. For one, it typically puts you months or even years behind in critical security updates. It often does not resolve the problem. And even when the problem is resolved, nothing is learned to prevent recurrence.

You do want to make sure Windows is current and you don't have any errors shown in Device Manager.

As a hardware guy, the first rule of troubleshooting potential hardware issues is to ensure you are providing good, clean, stable power. So my suggestion would be to swap in known good power supply. If you are considering upgrading your graphics solution, you might consider your power needs now since the GPU is often the most power hungry device in our computers. It is not uncommon to require a bigger power supply when upgrading graphics. Get a quality supply from a reputable maker. I like Seasonic and EVGA. And I recommend at least 80 PLUS Bronze, preferably "Gold".

See my specs. XFX is a quality supply. GTX 750 Ti 2GB will be enough for this unit and consumes not so much power.

I like XFX too. But it is wrong to assume it is working properly. Until Man can create perfection 100% of the time, there will always be units that fail prematurely - either through a manufacturing defect, or from abuse such as it bouncing off the truck or from a power anomaly off the grid.

Voltage was measured in PSU. The CPU was overclocked several times in the past, but only for test purposes. The CPU has stock values.
Someone has suggested that because of overclocking. There wan no OC while BSODs.
So is there any possible software explanation?

PSU and SSD are best parts of my PC.

I guess I just am not explaining myself good enough. To verify your PSU is working properly, you MUST swap in a different one. You can NOT conclusively test a PSU unless you are a qualified technician using an oscilloscope with the PSU under a full range of expected loads, or you test it with a dedicated power supply analyzer. Are you a qualified technician? Do you have one of these sophisticated and expensive pieces of test equipment? And are you qualified to interpret the results?

A simple PSU tester, even a good one like this one is not conclusive. They show if a PSU is bad, but not if the PSU is good! A multimeter is not conclusive! Did you test under a full range of loads? Do you know if the voltages across those loads are within the allowed tolerances? Is ripple suppressed to well within allowed levels?

EVERYTHING inside your case depends on clean stable power. For this reason, you start at the wall. Is it plugged in? Is it turned on? Is the power supply delivering clean, stable power? If you assume a PSU is good without verifying it is good, you can easily end up spending a lot of money replacing something that was not broken - it was only receiving bad power.

Yes, you may be right! Someone suggested that BSODs could be related with OC. Is it better to keep manual settings even at stock values in BIOS? Rememeber it is Xeon processor on socket 775.

The last reported BSOD came along with BOOT error. I suppose it started during Eset Online Scanner was scanning and mouse lagging. What does it mean?

I could migrate OS to another hard disk and try to OC. If it fails thats definitely hardware problem BUT still no prove what is wrong.

As far as a replacement PSU, that one is out of production so not sure about the price - especially where you are.

It is no hurry, but searching for new PSU could be first step to set up new unit.

I have zero experience with Fractal Design power supplies. But Fractal Design cases are top notch and we've used them in several of our builds, including one for my personal computer that I am using right now. And their case fans are top notch too.

That said, reviews for other model PSUs in this same Edison M line are quite positive. And I note the OEM maker is Seasonic - a good choice.
