Hi there,

Thanks for creating this website. I need some help fixing a windows 7 update issue. I have tried steps 2 and 3 from the 'Windows update forum posting instructions' and there no errors detected. I tried step 4 and it created the below log file with some errors. It could create a zip file for some reason

Your help will be much appreciated

Thanks

Re: Windows 7 update error code 80073701

Looks like none of the file replacements were made.

Were the files from the packages folder in the zip placed in the correct folder (C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages)?

Re: Windows 7 update error code 80073701

Yes they were. There were some files already in the packages folder and I copied and pasted the ones from the zip file. Was I to delete the files already there?

Re: Windows 7 update error code 80073701

I took a closer look and discovered that the package names were different, so SURT has actually discovered additional files that need replacing.
I have prepared another fix:

Re: Windows 7 update error code 80073701

Looks good. Let's try SFC.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip and attach this to your next post.

Re: Windows 7 update error code 80073701

I see an SFC run in the log, but not the updates being installed. The log must have been archived.

Pick one update from those offered and attempt the installation again. When it fails, zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log with your reply.
