Hi,

This is my fisrt time I run into a problem with Windows update so this too the first time I write you. I have a Win7 Home Premium Italian version (Yes I am an italian user) on a HP Pavillon pc.

More or less around in the middle of september 2017 I got the error code in the title. Starting from that day any time I turned off the PC, Win7 downloaded the Updates and at successive starting the update failed always with error code 8007054F. Some days after I decided to stop any update to avoid wast of time. In October I did a n isolate "one shot tentative" (just usual a new updated released by Microsoft) but without success (same error for same KB403877).

Today I decided in the tentative to repair using your procedure. I did Run SFC Scan and following SURT/DISM Scan , Run SFCFix.
SFC has not reported any problem. Instead about last ones here in attached data. May be that some are still present?
Please note that about CBS there is a link to it because is very big (CBS.zip - Google Drive). Infact inside CBS zipped folder you'll find some .cab files created before (I don't know who or whose created by).

Thank in advance you for your assistance (and for your patience too :-) )

Regards.

Massimiliano

Hello and welcome! Sorry for the delay! Are you still in need of assistance?

Re: error code 8007054F for KB4038777 [September 12, 2017 - KB4038777 (Monthly Rollup

Yes of course. I need still assistance. Would you try to help me?

Certainly!

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Step#2 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Step#3 - Retrieve Components/Software Hives
Note: The Software hive has confidential and sensitive information in it so please send me a PM with a link to that particular hive so it's not in the public form.

  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, two of which are named COMPONENTS and SOFTWARE.
  • Copy these two files to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
  • Now right click on these files on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file(s) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.

Thanks for the link.
Here in attach you'll find the CheckSUR.log just created.
Before to go to step 3 (tha't your Step#3 - Retrieve Components/Software Hives) do I have to wait for your check?

Thanks.

Hi,

Here again (sigh!).
After some successful update, trying to install November 14, 2017—KB4048957 (Monthly Rollup) I got same error that's error 8007054F

Here the successfull installed (in order of installation):
KB947821,
KB4011205,
KB4043766,
KB4011265,
KB2952664,
KB890830,
KB4042076.

Then the next (that's KB4048957) I got fail.
In attach the CBS.log (since it is very big I zipped).

Stupid question: may be that these problem are connected to my Avast antivirus that I have on this machine?

Regards.
maci

Try updating now and attach CBS.log if any fail.

There are some Avast keys in the registry, but these aren't causing the issue.

First make a backup before we make any changes:

RegBak

Please download RegBak (by AceLogix Software) from the link below and save it to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on regbak.zip then select Extract all... and extract the files to your Desktop
    For 32-bit (x86) editions of Windows, double-click on regbak.exe
    For 64-bit (x64) editions of Windows, double-click on regbak64.exe

If you are unsure whether you have x86 or x64 Windows, see here
  • Without changing any options, click Next. RegBak will now backup all of your registry hives.

Afterwards,

After your last suggestion the KB4048957 has been installed.
Whether interesting (or try to understand), in attached the resulting CBS.log file (as zipped).
According your opinion what was the problem?

Regards and of course thanks.
