I couldn't find replacement manifest files of the same versions (8.0.7600.16704) on any discs or Win7 machines that I have.

I've attached the computer's CBS log.

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named Aura. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

I'm cool with that. We just need to get this fixed so that the computer can get the Win10 upgrade smoothly. So no huge rush.

Hi ocdtrekkie :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you under Brian's supervision (like he explained already). We'll start by fixing the files reported by SURT. Follow the instructions below please.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) - Fix
Follow the instructions below to fix the errors reported by the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT);
  • Download the attached archive file, Packs.zip and save it on your Desktop;
  • Once it's downloaded, right-click on it and select Extract All...;
  • Check the Show extracted files when complete checkbox, and click on Extract;
  • On completion, a folder will open with two folders inside it, Manifests and Packages;
    • Copy and paste the files of the Manifests folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests
    • Copy and paste the files of the Packages folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\servicing\Packages
  • Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again;
  • On completion, attach the log located at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in your next reply;

Thanks, Aura!

I did as requested, and the CheckSur.log shows all four of those files were replaced by the SURT. I'm trying Windows Update again now, for SP1. (Out of curiosity, is there any good source to just retrieve these files when I find missing ones? Or does SysNative have an internal-only repository?)

I'm trying Windows Update again now, for SP1.

Did you manage to install it?

(Out of curiosity, is there any good source to just retrieve these files when I find missing ones? Or does SysNative have an internal-only repository?)

It's pretty much learning what these files are, where they are located, how to source them and collecting them manually throught the web or throught systems you have yourself :)

Yeah, it's finding the sources that's my difficulty. ;)

SP1 installed correctly, so we should be good. Thanks a ton for your assistance.

No problem ocdtrekkie, you're welcome :) If all your issues has been solved here, I'll mark this thread as solved, is that okay?

Thank you :) Have a good day!
