hi and hello:

you helped me in 2014 by fixing my Windows Update problems. Now I need your help again. Win7Pro-64b SP1 will not download updates. I deleted Win and DISM logs, ran sfc /scannow and no corruptions errors. Ran SFCfix and no errors....dah!!!!!. CBS log shows "failed to internally open pkg: error 0x800f0805, lots of failures as you can see. Ran sfc /scannow and no file corruptions again and CBS logs attached....dah!!!! What is going on???

Thx....hoping for a quick reply. Happy Jul 4th:banghead:

Hi abro :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. Follow the instructions below please.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) - Scan
Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log;
  • Download the right version of SURT for your system;
    • Your version of Windows is: Windows 7 SP1 x64
  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go throught the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes);
  • On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log;
  • Attach this log in your next reply;
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

hi aura:

thx for helping me. Downloaded and ran SURT for W7Pro 64b as requested. The Windows Standalone Installer box shows " searching for updates on this computer". It never completes....also no checkSUR.log. Any thoughts?? I tried a W7ProSP164b in place install but hung up on "searching for update s on this computer" so aborted. SURT is still running after 2 hours.

Awaiting to use a Win7Pro 64b (non SP1) disk and will attempt an in place install again. Something tells me its the SP1 that is goofed up. Will delete SW Distribution Folder and all logs before in place install, then its a simple reload of Win7Pro w/ correct files for update. What do you think??

thx again..abro89

I've seen SURT take over 10 hours to run on a system. So what I would do is leave it overnight and check in the morning.

And I've never heard of anyone having to delete any files prior to doing a Repair Install (In-Place Upgrade) of Windows 7 before, and I don't think it's necessary.

OK....will stop deleting SW Distro Folder. I do it just before an sfc /scannow as its easier to review CBS log files. Current CBS log files indicates Windows Update Agent is missing or corrupt so will SURT fix this?? What about DISM folder. Can we update Win 7 DISM so that its health and correction of any corrupt files can be done??? Win 8 DISM folder has nice features for maintenance and repair . has helped me correct and repair Win Update process

Thx again....abro89

Current CBS log files indicates Windows Update Agent is missing or corrupt so will SURT fix this??

It depends if it's a corruption SURT can fix, otherwise, we'll have to fix it manually.

Can we update Win 7 DISM so that its health and correction of any corrupt files can be done???

The restore features of DISM aren't available in Windows 7, only Windows 8 and above.

ok...left SURT running overnight, time is 6:45 est, still stuck at "searching for updates on this computer" Lets start "manual" file correction as you indicated or proceed w/ an "in-place" upgrade. I will have a Win 7Pro64b DVD w/o SP1 next week. Norton FW is OFF as I thought this might impact Win Update. Your thoughts???

hey....guess what....my updates are flowing. All of a sudden Installation Complete popped up after 12+ hours. Reset laptop and 43 Windows Updates were installed w/ no failures. SURT log shows no errors also after completition of SURT....wow!!! Right now installing 2 updates that were downloaded automatically and within a few minutes. This is so weird and unexplainable, will never understand Windows. SURT apparently untangled all existing files for update process. Also CPU usage back to 1%, previous was 50%

Lets see how the day progresses w/ updates. Many thx again....pass this EMAIL to Will if he is still involved w/ Sysnative.

Thx again...

Sometimes you just have to wait a long time for Windows Updates to be found. Glad to see that your issue has been solved though :)

And no problem, you're welcome!

yes SURT solved my update issue. One quick question......"failed" exists in my DISM log. May I send the file and see if this is something I need to solve??
