W7 update err 0x80092004 despite having KB4474419 and KB4490628

Thank you. I installed that successfully, and restarted the computer. After that, I went to Windows update where 5 updates were pending, and I said Install.
The same three updates failed in the same way. The other two succeeded (Malicious Software Removal and Word 2010 update).
I have captured the latest CBS folder and shared it here: CBS.zip

When able, do the following:

Install Update with DISM

Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.1-KB4536952-x64.cab.zip.
Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4536952-x64.cab
You should receive the message:
The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

Note: If you get an error saying that no packages were found that require processing, please use the following command instead:

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4536952-x64.cab\Windows6.1-KB4536952-x64.cab

Thank you. I downloaded the update and applied it as described.

Unfortunately, it reached 31% and then aborted with the same error number 80092004.

I have made a new ZIP archive with copies of both the DISM and CBS folders from C:\Windows\Logs: DISM_CBS.zip

It's puzzling, isn't it? Unfortunately, I don't have another 64-bit W7 machine to compare the system files with. Particularly which file(s) implement the SHA2 checking.

I have several machines. Comparison is not the issue. There's something off with your system and I have yet to determine what.

Please repeat the procedure above, but with Process Monitor enabled.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

Apologies - got busy and didn't get around to it. I've done the procedure now:

Rebooted to start afresh.
Stopped some programs to reduce activity
Opened an administrator CMD window, and pasted in the last DISM command given above, ready to run
Started procmon64
Pressed Enter in CMD to run the command
Stopped the trace within about a second of the error 80092004 being shown.
Saved the LogFile.PML log to the desktop.
Copied the CBS and DISM folders to the desktop.
Created a zip containing those two folders and LogFile.PML. It is here: PML.zip

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
Save any open documents and close all open windows.
On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
SFCFix will now process the script.
Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Afterwards, run SURT, attach CheckSUR.log and then try updating.

Thank you, I've done all that, in the order given (I rebooted after running SURT before retrying Windows Update, to get a fresh CBS). For Windows Update, I saw that 4536952 was no longer listed, so I selected just 4524752 and 4516065, which were the other two that regularly failed. Unfortunately, they still failed with the same error 80092004.

Hi, sorry for the delay. I was reluctant to do procmon while running a normal windows update, because it takes so long to run. I have also been reading other threads on this and other sites. In response to what I read, I tried the following steps, in order hopefully to re-do the required updates:

Removed KB4474419 with WUSA, then rebooted.
Unpack the MSU for KB4490628 and use DISM to install the CAB. Success, then rebooted.
Similarly, install KB4474419 v1 with DISM. Success, then rebooted.
Install KB4474419 v2 with DISM. Success, then rebooted.
Install KB4474419 v3 with DISM. Success, then rebooted.
Open Windows Update. It offered KB4474419 again, so I selected just that one to install. Success, then rebooted.
In Windows Update, selected the two that had repeatedly been failing. Still failed, with 0x80092004. Rebooted.
Tried installing the newer SSU in KB4516655 using DISM. Failed with 0x80092004. Rebooted.
Repeated the attempt at DISM KB4516655 with Procmon running. Stopped procmon as soon as the error 0x80092004 was shown.

I have a zip file of the results of the last step above, with PML, CBS and DISM logs at PML_CBS_DISM.zip

Apart from the failed updates, the system is running ok. I'm wondering whether I might just have to live with it until I decide to replace it with Win10. But it's frustrating that Microsoft don't seem to tell you exactly what is wrong!

This is the exact opposite of what you should have done.

Please attempt installing the update through Windows Update with Process Monitor enabled.

W7 update err 0x80092004 despite having KB4474419 and KB4490628
