Hi there,

My first post here. ANY help would be sincerely appreciated. I was attempting to upgrade a PC with Win7 to Win10 and received the dreaded error in Subject of this post.
SFCFix App identified 8 corrupted files in the attached txt file. I manually attempted to overwrite them with files from another working PC using "takeown" and "icacls" commands, but to no avail.
This appears to be the only forum that actively been providing everyone with a solution.

Again any help would be appreciated . . Thanks!

Soooo for my scenario, I was able to get the number of corrupted files down to 2 by uninstalling, downloading and re-installing - Visual C++ Redistributables, 2008, 2010, 2015 and repairing the install of .Netframework 4.6.1

CORRUPT: C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft.vc90.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.4148_none_04480933ab2137b1\mfc90u.dll

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a solution to repair these last 2 file corruptions

Downloaded and ran the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool. No change, same issue.

Rebooted from Win7 DVD, ran the command sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

Rebooted back to the Desktop, ran the command sfc /scannow

I've attached is a copy of the last CBS.log file.

Any chance for a review or assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Last update for the day.
Downloaded and ran / installed the Windows 7 users to System Update Readiness Tool (Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu).
Attempting in place upgrade from Win7 to Win10 one final time. Hoping it will get past 30% and not crap out (fingers crossed).

Gnite all . . .

Ah, well, it failed once again and I'm back to square one . . . . well almost, the error message codes this time are different.

0x8007042B - 0x2000D
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation

Hi!

Please do the following:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

HI ALL,

Thanks for the time and effort. I decided after the last update above to start from scratch with a new clone of the original hard drive.

After a successful cloning of the original HardDrive,

1. Reset and backed up CBS.log files;
2. Initiated a complete and FULL Windows Update of the system including all optional updates.
3. Left for very last, "System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014]"
4. Will run a system clean up and sfc /scannow.

Will post a new update shortly.

Unable to post first results of fist sfc /scannow - CBS.log file was 298MB in size.

Used ultra compression with 7Zip, file was still too large to post.

Reset CBS.log file and re-ran sfc /scannow.

Attached new CBS.log file for review.

Results of second SFCFix.exe scan - only 9 errors left to fix . . . . :-)

Thanks in advance for the review and assistance!!!

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

  • Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
  • Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
  • Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.
