Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install Service Pack 1 on Windows 7 Home Premium, but it fails with 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND.

My father installed polish language pack and probably that is the reason why update fails. I've changed language back to en-US:
  1. bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US
  2. bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US
  3. Deleted registry folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MUI\UILanguages\pl-PL
  4. Rebooted
Language changed back to english, but this didn't helped with the update, so I tried following:

  1. sfc /scannow
  2. Reset Windows Update components - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058
  3. System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) - Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Center
  4. dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB976932~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514
  5. Downloaded SP1 - Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center
No luck. In attachment you can find CBS and CheckSUR logs.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.View attachment 21672View attachment 21673

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Before we begin, may I ask you if you intend on updating to the free (until the end of this month) Windows 10?

Yes, that was my plan. If you say, that it is safe to upgrade directly from W7 without SP1 to W10, that is great. I'll try to do this.

Exactly correct. The best way to do this with the best chance of success is to first do a Clean Boot of your machine following the instructions below.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
2. Accept the License Agreement
3. Keep the default Upgrade this PC option and click Next.
4. Let this process complete the upgrade to the newest build and let me know when complete.

Let me know how it goes.

Great. Thanks for letting us know. It's a little confusing I agree. SP1 is a requirement to install through Windows Update but not by using the Media Creation Tool.
