Hi,
Running W7
Recently my internet connection drops randomly.
I have to manually reconnect with my wifi button on laptop to reconnect...happens 30 times a day ....
But important, not on my other devices as a smartphone/tablet etc. Always internet there.
So its only on my laptop.

I've already uninstalled/reinstalled qualcomm drivers and related drivers but NO GO .
I've also ckecked that there is no sleep mode.
Also, it happens on other networks too.

Can someone help me out with this one ?

What is the laptop model?
Have you tried updating the BIOS?

No i havened yet.
Btw, i see now that my IPv6 is checked. Is that ok ? Because i thought that is not needed , correct ?

It will provide us with wifi driver info (such as the timestamp) as well as telling us the strength of your wifi signal (as a percent).

It sounds to me like you may have a low wifi signal &/or an old driver.

From searching, this is a 10 year old laptop. Is that correct? If so, you have to consider that the hardware (wifi adapter) could also be failing.

The easiest fix is to get a wifi USB adapter, try it and see if the signal holds. If you have any friends that have one, you can ask to borrow it for a day to test the failing hardware theory.

How far away is the laptop from the router?
How many walls are there between the laptop and router?

There literally is no place to obtain updated Qualcomm Atheros drivers any longer, unfortunately. The only place for updated Qualcomm Atheros drivers would be your system manufacturer's support site.

Check there and see if they have an updated driver. In general, networking drivers such as wifi in this case are considered outdated if they're over 6 months old. I can't be 100% sure that the problem here is the aged driver, but my experience tells me it is very likely the cause.

Have you tried the Ethernet connection to see if it drops the signal? If not, connect the laptop to the router via Ethernet wired connection and use the system that way for 2-3 days and keep track how many times that you experience signal loss.

The other option that you have is to purchase a USB wifi device like one of these:

Thanks John for your reply! Any help is appreciated.

The laptop is on the same floor, no walls and some 12ft away. So i dont think thats the issue since it always has functioned ok. Just the last 4 weeks i experienced this problem.
If the driver should be outdated , i would expect that this issue should popped up much earlier , no ?

Anyway i will try and connect to a wired ethernet and test for a couple days and report back.

Perhaps this might help too : i used my smartphone for a day as a hotspot and the laptop connected to that hotspot and it gave no dropdowns. Any thoughts about that then ?
 
1. Only your laptop drops connections, not other devices like phone and tablet. So that seems to indicate there is no problem with your modem, router or gateway.
2. The laptop drops internet when used out side of your home network.

The above 2 facts point to a problem with the wifi device inside the laptop.

3. You used your smartphone as a hotspot and the connection to the laptop had no problem.
I'll be the first to admit, I've never done anything with hotspot or tethering. I just got my first ever smart phone in march of this year.
I'm really not sure what the laptop uses as it connects to the phone being used as a hotspot.
Was the phone using wireless on your home network or cellular data?

When i use my phone as hotspot i've tested both. So phone connected to homenetwork and tested on cellular data. In both cases my laptop has a steady connection.
Only when my laptop connects to my network (or another on a different location) the signal drops and i have to restart the network adapater to the network. For 1/2 hour its ok ...and then on and off...every 10 to 30 min.
It depends. Very strange.
Indeed a good question, as i am not a tech, : is the used hardware the same when my laptop is connected to my phone?

I don't know.
I'm thinking that you are using the phone's connection and doing something like mirroring on your laptop so it's internal wifi isn't being used.

If one of our netbooks kept dropping the wifi connection and no other computer was affected, I'd buy a USB wifi dongle and use that on the laptop.

Imo i think the used hardware is the same but perhaps the signal is different in one sort or another. I dont know. Perhaps can someone explain.

Indeed i will buy a simple usb wifi adapter. No harm done there :-)
 
A simple search on internet shows you/we can connect your/our phone to your/our pc through:
- infrared waves
- Bluetooth
- Wireless signal
- Usb cable (possibly using a USB port that can charge the battery of the phone)

That we already knew. That does not explain why the connection via modem drops and not when on phone's Hotspot. Also wireless and imo the same connection type.
 
Could it be its your phone that interfere with the wireless signal?
I bet you keep it near you when you are using the laptop (like almost everyone do).
 
What is the manufacturer name and exact model number (look at the bottom of laptop) of your laptop?

Hi! That's right but this has been so for a decade. I work like this all the time for my regular job and never had an issue. And even now i've tested laptop-modem connection without my phone on the same network.
But the result is still the same. I didn't test it though without my phone in the neighbourhood.
