Hello and welcome!

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named Bruce1270. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Thank you so much. I am sure Mr Bruce will do a fine job. thank you for your prompt reply.

Hi WacoJohn

Hi. My name is Bruce1270 and I shall be assisting you. Apologies for the delay.!

Please do the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Hi WacoJohn

Please do the following.

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.1-KB4516065-x86.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4516065-x86.cab\Windows6.1-KB4516065-x86.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

just one question. If I DO get the restart prompt, do I do it?? Figure yes, but want to be sure.

The DISM routine completed successfully. I was prompted to reboot and I did. That reboot (of course) installed an update. Computer is "Configuring Windows Updates. Do not turn off your computer" this moment.

Finished.
Shutting Down.
Hard start with the button.
At desktop with no errors.
Have notification "New updates are available"

Shall I see if they will install? I await your reply.

Hi WacoJohn

Please attempt to install the important update KB452535 only (Do not install the optional update KB4525251) and attach the CBS log if it fails again.

Deferred the optional update. Executed the important one.

Result: THAT update (finally) installed. So far so good. What's next, Sir?

Hi WacoJohn

Great news!

I would avoid installing the optional update KB4525251 as this is a preview update and it is essentially beta software.

That's us done if no further issues or questions?

Glad we could be of assistance.

Thanks
Bruce1270

I have hidden the optional update. THANK YOU for all you and Softwaremaniac have done. You are a credit to the organization. Thank you both again.
