Before the above, it was
CORRUPT: C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-s..on-wizard-framework_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_1478eaa56818c3c0\spwizimg.dll

but one of them got fixed through
anybody could help me with to fix a corrupted file? "spwizimg.dll"
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/atta...dll-sfcfix-zip
and it worked.
Then rewrote it for the other error.
That seemed to have worked worked too...
...but, see the attached and the SFCfix output above.
It might be also not only the
W32UIRes.dll, of which I tried by now three versions
21-01-2010
21-11-2010
22-08-2013
so there must be at least one other (or another still hidden error).

Please let me know if anything else is required to fix windows update (and defender also does not start, and FSS.exe says it can reach google/yahoo, but not their IP, yet, even without any firewall, windows update does not work). There were access denied problems before, but permissions time machine helped. Windows update worked after many tools up til uninstall of the win 10 upgrade option KB3035583. One would hope m$ft had some self-healing built-in, but they don't care...

Thx :)

BTW, all security was switched off (eg firewall, virusscanner) and the sys disk was present for sfc.

What could cause such trouble? Could it still be a general permissions thing, as it is another sys on another partition (and w7 rewrites the drive letter)?
Is there another way to check for problems? (Windows Update comes up super slow, TrustedInstaller needs to be started manually, and clicking update brings the notification box with "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.")

Any ideas?
Thx :)

There's too many possibilities for me to list them all to be honest, anything could have caused that. It seems that we still need to replace some files. Here goes :)

Thanks a lot.

Here is the next output and cbs.log

I think there is some odd error with the IP connection,
web browsing works, but certain programs, eg SFCfix, do not get a connection.
What could that be?

However, windows update still does not work, even after restart, same message:
"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

Interestingly, when starting SFCfix, it says:

"
Checking for updates . . .

Failed to check for updates. This may be due to an internet connection problem
or a temporary availability failure of the update servers. Please ensure that
you are using the latest version of the program before continuing . . .
"
So there must be still some connection problem, as some other programs also cannot connect, while web browsing is obviously working.
How can this be fixed?

Thx :)

Let's run a SFC scan first to make sure that the files we replaced above are accepted, then we'll work on the Windows Update issue, as I know what step to take next :)

EndqYRa.png
System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Perhaps of interest as well, before running the above, these were also tried, but no joy...

After the above, ran SFCfix again to see ergo:
all zero output :)
BUT
win update still not working
same error message
"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

even after ensuring
BITS, CrypSvc, TrustedInstaller, wuauserv are running
and update settings are set to auto (even switched back and forth btwn the two top ones to ensure reinitialisation)
no joy!?!

what could be the remaining fault, what's the next step?

thx!

Before we move on to playing with the services, I just have to make sure that SURT returns a clean log. Follow the instructions below please.
