Hi, new to this forum but joined up because I saw many people having the same issue as me. I am also experiencing severe audio/video latency that is seeming to also be caused by storport.sys. I have tried many things, including going through and disabling/reenabling all my drivers, (including sound drivers and network adapters), I replaced my soundcard, I uninstalled and reinstalled all of my NVIDIA drivers, I tried reverting to a previous version of Windows 10, (I re updated to the latest version after it didn't work as well), I used driver easy and driver verifier to check for corrupted and out of date drivers, I checked my power management settings, updated my BIOS, tried overclocking my CPU in my BIOS, and unplugged my monitors and all of my USB devices. None of that has put a dent in my problem, as I still get Latency µs counts of anywhere from 30,000 to 200,000. Similar to other descriptions, it causes audio pop outs and video lag every few seconds. I used latency monitor which said the problem was due to CPU throttling, but showed storport.sys as the only process creating latency. Occasionally I won't have latency at all, and then it will suddenly return. It works whether I am streaming or using downloaded content.

I downloaded SDK as well and attempted to capture a trace file as recommended to provide further info. However, when I copied and entered the first line of code provided, I got the message:

'xperf' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

If anyone can help me with this as well I can try and provide an accurate trace file.

I would appreciate it if you guys could also help me with this infuriating problem that many others seem to be dealing with. Thanks in advance, and like I said earlier if there's any info I left out that you need just let me know.

ALSO:
For some reason all of the latencymon-related software says I'm running Windows 8. I don't know why this is, I am running Windows 10 Home Edition. All of the other info seems to be accurate though.

Please use the Windows Performance Analyzer to provide us with your trace file. The trace file will probably be too large to upload here, so host it from a third party site like Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive.

Please also provide your dxdiag and msinfo32 reports:

Open and run DxDiag.exe

This tool is used to collect info about devices to help troubleshoot problems with DirectX sound and video. A support person might ask for this info, or you might post it in a forum when you ask for help.


  • In Windows, select Start and enter dxdiag into the search box on the taskbar. Select dxdiag from the results.
  • In the tool, select Save All Information for an easily shared format.


Run msinfo32

Open an instance of elevated command prompt:
  • Log on to your Windows 10 computer using any account of your preference.
  • Once on the desktop screen, right-click the Start button.
  • From the context menu, click Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin)
  • If you opened Windows PowerShell, type

I have done as you requested and put the zipped trace kernel file, zipped msinfo32 file, and DxDiag result text file onto my OneDrive. If there's any other info you need, or the trace didn't catch my problem and needs to be ran again, please let me know. Thank you so much for your help so far!

I'm seeing some usage spikes from Google Chrome. Have you tried another browser?

I also see some spikes from Windows Defender that may suggest corruption in your Windows install. Run the following in an elevated command prompt (see my previous post for steps to open an elevated command prompt):

Check your motherboard retailer for your motherboard model, and install any updates to Intel Rapid Storage Technology. You should also check all SATA connectors to ensure they are properly connected to your SSD and HDDs, and make sure your RAM is seated properly in its slots.


If none of the above help, start performing some hardware testing to make sure hardware isn't overheating or failing:

Alright. I tried uninstalling chrome and using edge and still had latency issues. I ran everything you said in an elevated command prompt, and the results said everything was normal.
I checked all of my SATA connections which also didn't solve the problem.

HOWEVER:
I tried re-seating the RAM and the problem was gone when I restarted. However, it returned again after I restarted a few more times.

It's confusing because I get different results from latencymon; sometimes it is iaStor or storport.sys causing the latency according to the results, but other times like in a screenshot I will attatch, I have latency but no driver shows up as causing a significant amount.

It's hard to get a lock on it since sometimes my computer works fine, only for the problem to return later. I also downloaded the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology software and updated my Nvidia drivers also to no avail. Intel Rapid Storage says all of my hard drives are normal and functioning correctly. I also downloaded the Realtek audio driver for my motherboard.
Since one of the problems appeared to be storport.sys, I tried unplugging my other 2 hard drives and just booting from my ssd and that didn't fix the problem either. If you have any other ideas, or need more info, I'm more than open to try them. Thanks again.

Finally fixed the problem doing two things. It is linked to a corrupt Intel Ethernet Driver, in my case Intel(R) 82583V, and the NVIDIA HD Audio, disable both in the Device Manager and run wifi instead.

The DPC latency problem went away completely...

I need to append my previous statement, that didn't fully solve the problem. I had to go into the bios and disable the following settings. Set legacy USB support to Auto then disable HPET, UEFI, and Legacy USB 3.0 support. Those combination of bios settings got my latency down from OFF the freaking charts, to stable at 500-600. *stable for 4 hours now* fingers crossed, I'll update if I figure anything else out.

Sorry I was gone for so long had moving in to college to deal with. I took both of you guys' advice, I disabled the Nvidia Audio Driver and am running audio through my soundcard and I went into the bIOS and tried to do what you said. However the only setting you mentioned that I found was Legacy USB support which I turned to auto like you requested. I couldn't find an option for HPET, UEFI, or Legacy 3.0. Setting this to auto and disabling the nvidia driver still hasn't solved my problem tho :/ if there's any other ideas you guys have please let me know (btw my motherboard is an ROG IX Hero so thats the biOS Im using)

Will do. Whats also worth noting that is weird is that when running LatencyMon, sometimes the problem appears to be storport.sys while other times it just shows up as a normal interrupt instead of an ISR Routine Execution delay, so I'm still not sure if it is entirely a storport problem. I also tried disabling my onboard sound in the bios and just using my installed soundboard, but that didn't work. I also uninstalled and reinstalled all of my Realtek drivers as well as overclocking my CPU. I will get back to you when I finish replacing the SATA drivers tho.

Hi Jak22099. :welcome:

There's a new bios for your asus MAXIMUS IX HERO (and for your cpu i7-6700k).
Current bios seems to be version 0906, new bios is version 1009 2017/08/04.
Read carefully your manual before updating the bios.
Remember the precautions: system restore point, backup of your important files, system image, windows cd at hand...
