Hey so I was trying to update my desktop PC, and I've been having troubles to do so since about a month ago.

When trying to install KB5018410 I get 0x80073701.

I tried using the built in update troubleshooter and it initially detected an error and suposedly fixed it, but I still could not install the update.

After that I tried SFC and got the same result.

Then DISM was the same old story.

In the end I tried the following
  • net stop wuauserv
  • net stop cryptSvc
  • net stop bits
  • net stop msiserver
  • ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
  • ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
  • net start wuauserv
  • net start cryptSvc
  • net start bits
  • net start msiserver
but still, the problem persisted.

Then I tried SFCfix, but it didn't find anything

I found out I'm getting the exact same error with the same update as in this thread
