So I was setting up some new W10 21H2 laptops and had already finished updating to September 2022 including the preview patches, and patch tuesday rolled up, so I thought why not, run the october patches.

Yeah, that didn't go so well, so now I have 6 laptops with busted windows update. You would think fresh PC's wold be less likely to have this happen...

PC #1 of 6

got a 0x80073701 error when installing KB5018410

sfc /scannow found something, ran it again and was clear
dism check/scan/restore clear
SFCfix clear

components with CBS/DISM/ProcMon/SFCfix logs

  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
