  • A brief description of your problem (but you can also include the steps you tried)
As for what I've done. uninstalled driver. reinstalled. didn't help. used DDU next in safe mode. reinstalled. didn't help. after this I went to microsoft support the suggestion was to do a in-place windows 10 install (I had run sfc and dism before this)... this worked.... for a while (a month or so I think?) during this time I had almost no issue at all. going back a bit tho this progressively got worse before that until it was crashing daily at least once every 24 hours like clockwork. Unfortunately this has come back its not nearly as bad yet. with the above it feels to me like its software related but I could be wrong (maybe failing harddrive or something?)

  • System Manufacturer? - none OEM
  • Laptop or Desktop? - desktop
  • Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) - none
  • OS ? (Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista) - windows 10 pro
  • x86 (32bit) or x64 (64bit)? - x64
  • What was original installed OS on system? - windows 7 ultimate
  • Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? - full retail (well windows 7 was windows 10 was the upgrade program)
  • Age of system? (hardware) - on the older side
  • Age of OS installation? - oldish
  • Have you re-installed the OS? - did a in-place reinstall that solved the issue for a short time
  • CPU - I7 4790k
  • RAM (brand, EXACT model, what slots are you using?) - Corsair CMY16GX3M2A1866C9 (pretty sure)
  • Video Card - gtx 970
  • MotherBoard - (if NOT a laptop) - ASUS Z97-PRO GAMER
  • Power Supply - brand & wattage (if laptop, skip this one) - cx 750m
  • Is driver verifier enabled or disabled? - disabled
  • What security software are you using? (Firewall, antivirus, antimalware, antispyware, and so forth) - eset smart security with malwarebyte premium as secondary
  • Are you using proxy, vpn, ipfilters or similar software? - not atm
  • Are you using Disk Image tools? (like daemon tools, alcohol 52% or 120%, virtual CloneDrive, roxio software) - no
  • Are you currently under/overclocking? Are there overclocking software installed on your system? - cpu is overlocked to run at 4.0GHz constantly - gpu is factory overlocked by gigabyte (don't believe these to be the issue unless they become unstable later)

I'm not seeing anything you don't already know.
Have you checked the video card and system temps?
Past that it's going take swapping in another video card or putting yours in another system to test.

I don't usually keep anything open to watch temps... I guess I can do that for a bit see if I can catch anything out of norm temp ranges. Ideally I'd want something with a log tho to catch up to the moment it crashes (hopefully wouldn't get corrupted) Any recommendations for a program that would monitor everything with a logging feature?

Edit: should also note for the moment I don't have anything I can do the gpu swapping test with.

I know of nothing that logs temps that works well enough during a crash to trust.
The classic version of Hardware Monitor from CPID > HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID is about the best I have but you need to watch it real time.
If you see the video card above 90c it may be time to clean the heat sink/fan with compressed air in a can.

These are after running time spy from 3DMark

Temps look good, that brings us back to testing with another card.
Hm, that's unfortunate since for the moment I don't have anything to try in its place. I'm thinking of doing a memtest soon tho and taking the ram stick / gpu out and reseating them to make sure they are in place well. anything else like this i can try in the meantime until i can get my hands on something to swap it with to see how it goes?
