So I have a VM running Windows Server 2016. It ran out of disk space, which unsurprisingly caused issues. Disk space has been increased, but it still had some problems. Normal attempts to repair it were partially successful... but now it is still having some issues and I am really at a loss as to what might be going on. Here's what the current status is:
--System boots and runs fine, has applied the latest 2020-07 patch.
--Server manager reports data retrieval failures.
--SFC runs fine, finds no corruption.
--DISM runs to 100%, sits there for awhile, then reports error 14, not enough storage space. However there is 32GB of RAM assigned to the VM (static assignment) of which 2.6GB is used and 82GB free on the virtual hard disk.
--Attempting to upgrade the server to 2019 fails, it goes through the install, reboots, tries, then rolls back.
--SFCFix runs, declares that due to the nature of the corruption more time has to be taken. It then runs a DISM which failed with error 14. It is currently sitting there, and has been for over an hour.
So I'm at a loss at this point. What the heck is making it so mad it can't be upgraded and where do I even go to figure it out?
