Very slow Boot, BSOD's at boot, sleep and hibernate!

Hello everyone,

I've been having this issue for the last 2 months. The boot time for my computer has been very slow, ~6 minutes, as well as that I get BSOD's (Power_State_Failure) every time I return from sleep or hibernate. Bluescreenviewer says that it is caused by ntoskrnl.exe, but from reading some of your posts, it's probably caused by something else invading it? Also, can't remember where I got it from, but somewhere the computer gave me a report that there was a Kernel Power error at every boot, and the task manager shows Windows Error Reporter to be running after every boot. The dump file from April 29th & 30th was a little weirder, as when I booted the computer, it suddenly shut down and rebooted (so 10 minutes total boot time) and Soluto said there was a BSOD during boot: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, probably caused by: nt! MmTrimAllSystemPagableMemory Driver. Using blue screen viewer, this is caused by iaStorA.sys in addition to the ntoskrnl.exe.

Also, I was not able to run perfmon /report, as I got an error where I should be administrator (which I am), but checking many times and on different accounts, nothing seems to work. I also get this when trying to delete certain files, though from research, this seems to be a windows 8.1 bug. Sorry! );

· OS - Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
· Preinstalled OEM version, upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 through the store (upgraded ~1 week ago)
· Asus G75VX-T4020H laptop bought new April 2013.
· I7-3630QM (no OC temps always under 80'C)
· GTX670MX (no OC. temps always under 70'C)
· Intel HM77 (Panther Point)
· 180 watt power supply

P.S: The laptop just got returned from RMA 1.5 weeks ago with a replaced HDD and motherboard. I've had this issue already before sending it to RMA (Windows 8 with lots of stuff installed) and after it (windows 8 & 8.1 almost stock).

I thank you all in advance,
-Julian :)

Please update your Intel Rapid Storage Driver from either the Intel driver website or the ASUS support page for your model.

What are the exact temperatures for your computer?

Thank you for your quick reply!
The temperatures from speedfan of my laptop are:
GPU: 35C idle. 65C gaming. 80C stress testing.
CPU: 40C idle. 70C gaming. 85C stress testing.
HDD: always at 30C, or 35C when the rest of the laptop is at load.

Concerning the intel rapid storage technology, Asus only supports it for Windows 8 for my laptop model and not 8.1, so what should I do? Should I try to see if the one for Windows 8 works (its already old: 20 October 2012) on 8.1 or should I download it straight from Intel? Is this the correct place: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De...g&OSVersion=Windows 8.1*&DownloadType=Drivers

Sorry, Julian.

The temps look fine to me.

The W8 drivers may be ~4 weeks newer than those you're currently using but I think I'd opt for installing the latest version from Intel, it looks like you have linked the correct download page.

I would download it from Intel, the drivers from the support page are usually always older. I would only suggest using the drivers from the support page if they weren't causing any problems.

The BSOD's seem to have stopped after sleep/hibernate. However, it now hangs/freezes for a minute before becoming usable after sleep/hibernate. Unfortunately, I still seem to be getting BSOD's at boot and the boot time is still very long. I attached a new Echo.zip.
Again, I would like to thank you all for helping me! :)

Looking through the Intel Rapid Storage Technology settings, I found one option: 'Link Power Management' under 'Performace' is enabled. It says it controls the power going to the HDD to save power during idle. Could this maybe be causing the freezing after sleep/hibernate? Or maybe even the slow boot and BSOD's? After all, the BSOD's were power related... Time to investigate!

I think there's a similar setting in Windows too, if it's just related to Performance then could try and disable it. It could be contributing to the crashes, especially since it's related to power transition states. The Stop 0x9F was caused by a Power IRP not being completed within the allocated time interval.

The bugcheck was a Stop 0x9F, and related to Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver, so changing the settings would a good option to try.

I've tried to turn Intel link power management off, and fast-boot off as well. No results. Doesn't matter if I turn them on/off separately or as a group, nothing improved.
Nothing fancy is in start up programs; even tried uninstalling some bloatware (notably Asus Instant On). Still freezes temporarily at boot and the same long boot time!
Im running out of ideas! Any suggestions?

Have you tried completely removing the IRST driver and the software for it? It should be listed in Device Manager. Make sure you create a proper backup of everything on your computer before removal; when you've removed the driver, reboot the computer and the default Microsoft version of the driver should be automatically installed by Windows.

Do you know if your using RAID?

I do not use RAID. Currently only have one 750gb HDD and a dead SSD. Is there any chance it could brick my laptop? Because I wont have access to another computer for quite a while.

Hi

I'm having the exact same problem, same thing with iaStorA.sys, slow boot and BSOD after sleep and hibernate.
Whats the status?

Well, my boot time got faster (2 minutes less) and there are no more BSOD's since I updated/installed intel rapid storage technology.
Further up there's a link for it. Click it and download the "installer". The other ones are kinda confusing.
Also, in Intel RST, disabling link power management might help.
Hope this helps! ;D

Sadly, I regularly clean all my junk files and temporary files, including repairing broken files and such. That was one of the first things I tried. XD
