Hello, first of all I apologize for my English (I'm from Barcelona). I will make the effort to explain the problem to you to see if it is understood.
I have a laptop ASUS S200E from 2013. It has two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. The 2.0 ports stopped working and only the USB 3.0 devices work on port 3.0. The 2.0 devices connected to the USB 3.0 port do not work.
After many tests I decided to format the disk and reinstall windows 10 (I used to have windows 8.1). The problem remains the same.
Starting the PC with Linux Live USB there is the same problem with USB.
In device manager, without any USB plugged in, when I start the PC the following error is displayed:
Unknown USB device (Device descriptor request error)
Windows stopped this device because it reported problems. (Code 43)
Error in a request for the USB device descriptor.
I have a DJ mixer with a USB 2.0 device that does not recognize it if I plug it in. But if I boot the PC and it is plugged into the USB 3.0 port it does recognize it. But I can not connect it in a external HUB because then it does not recognize it. Therefore I can only connect one device.
If I suspend the PC and wake it up, the external hard disk connected in USB 3.0 does not recognize it, it always recognizes it after a reboot.
I think there is a fault in the hardware that gives the error at the beginning, what I would like is to see if I can deactivate something so that I do not get that error and can use at least the USB 3.0 port normally and connect an external HUB to can plug in more devices. Above all USB 2.0 devices.
I have already disabled in the device manager the USB 2.0 ports of the computer, so there is no way to make them work.
Greetings and I hope you understand the problem
Thank you
