I am trying to update from windows home 8.1 to windows home 10, but it keeps failing. Initially got a stop code after running through the install. Ran SFC and DISM to clean up some corrupt files. Then when i try to run the update it will will go thru the "preparing" screen and then stop without any error message. The blue box log shows some 0xC0000005 errors. The setupdiag results log show a memory dump, but gives no debugger info. I can't run the installer again typically until the next day when the issue clears, but the install will fail with another code and get stuck again.

I used the media creation tool to make both a USB flash drive and an ISO DVD, same issue.

I have done a RAM check - no issues found
SFC - no issues after fix
DISM no issues after fix
CHKDSK - no issues
Clean boot - no change
Disable anti virus- no change
unplugged all devices except usb with the uninstaller on it, no change.

I have been reading up on all the event codes and error codes, but I am getting out of my depth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome,

ChkDsk Scan
  • Right-click the Start button and click Commandprompt (Run as administrator).
  • A window appears. Typ CHKDSK and press the enter key.
  • Wait until CHKDSK is finished.
  • Download ListChkdskResult.exe by SleepyDude and save it on your desktop.
  • Rightclick

ListChkdskResult.exe and click Run as administrator. On completion the tool will save a textfile called ListChkdskResult.txt on your desktop.
  • Attach this text file to your next reply.

The following might take several hours to complete. You can do it overnight if you like.

Right-click Start then click Command-prompt (administrator).
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards.

Code:
chkdsk c: /f /r
At the question "Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)", press Y.
Restart the system.

Do not press any key during the restart. This will allow CHKDSK to start.
Wait for this to complete. Please note that this may take several hours. Let it run even if it looks like the process has stopped!
On completion, the system will restart automatically.

I ran the chkdsk, it took about a 1/2 hour. I had done this in the previously and it did find and repair a couple of corrupt files.

i am thinking there maybe an app that is trying to start up when windows tries rebooting during the install.

  1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
  2. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  3. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  6. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Step 1:
Uninstall "Amazon 1Button App".

Step 2:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

through control panel, i don't get the option to uninstall, just change or repair. Can I just delete the folder?

Hi Peter,

I tried the install of windows 10 again. It went through in the initial install, rebooted, then came up with the blue screen. It then rebooted and came up with the the scanning and repairing screen, then opened up normally.

Thanks

Do you mean the issue is fixed ?

Attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

I took out the older logs so it would be small enough to send, but I have them if needed.
Thanks

Post the logfile C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log as attachment in your next reply.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next reply please upload via a service such as Filedropper or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the download link.
