Hi everyone!

I'm not able to upgrade my laptop from Win7 Pro to Win10. I'm always getting the error 0x80070005 - 0x2000A.
I did
  • sfc /scannow
  • SFCFix
  • chkdsk /r
before, but still the same error every time I try.

Here is the end of my setuperr.log:
Code:
2019-12-23 14:13:03, Error SP CRelocateOS: Cannot move path D:\$WINDOWS.~BT\NewOS\Windows from Windows.NEW. Error: 0x00000005[gle=0x00000002]
2019-12-23 14:13:03, Error SP Operation failed: Relocate OS from D:\$WINDOWS.~BT\NewOS to D:\. Error: 0x80070005[gle=0x000000b7]
2019-12-23 14:13:03, Error SP Operation execution failed: 10. hr = 0x80070005
2019-12-23 14:13:03, Error SP ExecuteOperations: Failed execution phase Safe OS. Error: 0x80070005
2019-12-23 14:13:03, Error SP CSetupPlatformPrivate::Execute: Execution of operations queue failed, abandoning. Error: 0x80070005

Any ideas anyone? Many thx!

Hello and welcome!

Please start with the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Please uninstall the following:

HP 3D DriveGuard

Afterwards, do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Once that has been completed, please retry the upgrade.

Windows did a rollback, but (as a sideeffect) I'm not able to do Windows Updates now!? When searching for new updates I get the error 80072EFD now.
What should I do next? Thx!

Forget last post - Windows Firewall was blocking WU. I don't know why... I changed the Firewall profile to a lower level, now WU works.

But I'm still facing the same problem: Win10 upgrade fails with error 0x80070005.
I also deactived general USB devices like the internal SD card reader, but it didn't help.

Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable

  • Extract the tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio.zip to c:\Windows\TEMP the zip will extract to a folder called Tweaking.com - Windows Repair
  • Execute the file Repair_Windows.exe from the Tweaking.com - Windows Repair folder, accept the Security warning and the EULA
  • Click the button Jump To Repairs
  • Click the Open Repairs button to access the following screen:
    WindowsRepair.png
  • Click the box All Repairs to uncheck all the boxes
  • Check only the following boxes:
    • 1 - Reset Registry Permissions
    • 2 - Reset File Permissions
    • 3 - Reset Service Permissions
  • Check the box Restart/Shutdown System When Finished > Restart System
  • Click the Start Repairs button
  • When the system reboots, attempt the upgrade again.

Sorry for my late reply - I was on vacation!

Unfortunately the upgrade didn't work. I did all the things you told me with the Windows Repair tool before.
I attached the setuperr.log.

Thx!

I did this and I also did a clean start before trying to upgrade again (if that counts) - and it failed again...
Same error as before.

Any folder redirects? Temp/Users/Program Files?

If so, revert the redirects back to default.

Make sure you uninstall everything related to HP and Realtek before attempting the upgrade.

Do note that you will likely lose internet access for the time being, so please download the iso and use it to try and upgrade the system after uninstalling the Realtek software.

Thx again for your help, but I finally gave up and made a new clean install of Win10 yesterday - deleting all apps and preferences and just keeping my personal files.
Now everything seems to work as it should.
