Hello everyone!

I'm running windows 10 pro, Version 1909, build 18363.720

The problems started with the previous Cumulative update that failed (2020-04). I didn't really paid much attention but now the latest update fails as well (KB4556799) -Error 0x80073712.

I pretty much have tried everything I have read in this forum and any other solutions I found in other pages, but nothing helped.

So what I have now is that the update fails.

CBS.log

When I run sfc /scannow command I get:

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 2% complete.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

When I run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth I get:

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.18362.1

Image Version: 10.0.18363.720

[==========================100.0%==========================] The restore operation completed successfully.
The operation completed successfully.

SFCFix crashes and this is what's in the log file:

SFCFix version 3.0.2.1 by niemiro.

I really am at a loss and I would really hate to have to do a new installation...

Hopefully you will be able to help me as you have helped so many other people!

Thank you all for your time and help!

PS. Sorry for any mistakes, English is not my native language.

Hi!

Let's start here:

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

  • Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
  • Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
  • Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.

Hi and thank you for your answer.

No, it was a fresh install on a new system about 6 months ago.

Very strange. I will attempt to fix this, but you may need to resort to a reinstall down the road.

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Should I restart before I do anything else?

Hello again and sorry for the late reply.

So yesterday I tried sfc /sannow which completed and found problems that it could not repair. (sfc.log)

Today I tried updaiting again which failed (cbs.log)

and afterwards I tried sfc /scannow again just to test which now failed again at 2% (sfc_new.log)

What should I do next?

I'm afraid I have been working against us...

I have been clearing the cbs.log before I ran anything but I just realised that each tool uses CBS.log to do it's job.
I cleared it once again.

I ran Windows update which failed and reported

Hopefully this will help better.

After browsing around and I read about people having problems from different locals, I realised that the other accounts on my pc have other system language set. Just in case that might play a role in my problem!

Thanks again and I'm waiting for your response.

With five users, that all have to be set up by me (children and wife accounts) and a ton of software to install and customize, if you say that it can't be fixed, I prefer to leave it as is until my system crashes...
