Error Code 80073712
I have run Hotfix KB947821 successfully
The above updates will still not install.

Hello and welcome to the forum

Error code 80073712 almost always refers to a corruption inside the registry.

Download and Run SFCFix

Please download and run SFCFix from >Here<

It will take about 15 minutes to process. Once the scan has completed a notepad file will launch with the results. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the results and post them back into this thread. Please put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Below is the text from the SFCfix that I ran from your reply

Hi Shawn.

Please run the following:
SFC /SCANNOW

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  2. Press Enter
  3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

I right clicked on the cmd, selected 'run as administrator' entered SFC /SCANNOW in the command prompt.

Then I pasted
cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
into the search box as you had instructed.

however, a .txt file did not appear on my desktop.
a .txt file did appear in a folder (windows/logs/CBS) but I was not able to copy it or move it to my desktop...

thoughts?

lets try and upload the whole folder.

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

ok, so I could not upload the CBS folder, but I did get the .txt file to attach.
Does the attached give you what you need?

To fix this one I would like to see the COMPONENTS registry hive:

Can you please go the following location C:\Windows\System32\config and look for the following files:
-COMPONENTS
-Any other files that start with the word COMPONENTS
-Or any files that have a similar name to COMPONENTS (it could be spelt different, have a number, a symbol etc)
If you find any please create a folder on your desktop and copy and paste all these files into this folder.
Next can you please zip this folder and upload them for me to analyze? The file may be too big to attach to this post, please use either Dropbox or One Drive.

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following commands
    dir %systemroot%\System32\config >1&&notepad 1
  4. Please post the contents of the notepad file back into this thread

Below is the contents of the notepad after I entered dir %systemroot%\System32\config >1&&notepad 1 there:

Can you please also upload the following:

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file SideBySide (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive

Thank you, I can see where the issue is now.

The problem with SFC is it only really reports one issue at a time when it comes to registry corruptions, I really want to get an overview picture of what is going on.

Please follow the instructions Here to run the System Update Readiness Tool. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

It doesnt make things easy for me when SURT doesn't find anything, it require a lot more manual work on my behalf.

Can you please go into C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifest and upload the following file to your next post:
x86_microsoft-windows-i..nal-core-locale-nls_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.18015_none_6cc07ac907871c11

Just as I was working on a fix, I found a bigger issue!

The COMPONENTS hive is originally 49,545,216 [45.54MB] the moment I open up the hive and close it the hive shrinks down to 6,912 [6.9MB].

Do you have any recent restore points?
