Hi,

Have a Windows 7 Pro 32 bit system.

The same updates keep being installed over and over again, even though the update succeeds.

The standard update troubleshooting steps don't work.

Ran sfc /scannow, nothing found.

Ran SURT, log is in zip file

CBS folder is in ZIP file.

Ran SFCfix:

AutoAnalysis::
SUMMARY: Some corruptions could not be fixed automatically. Seek advice from helper or sysnative.com.
CBS & SFC total detected corruption count: 0
CBS & SFC total unimportant corruption count: 0
CBS & SFC total fixed corruption count: 0
SURT total detected corruption count: 3
SURT total unimportant corruption count: 0
SURT total fixed corruption count: 0
AutoAnalysis:: directive completed successfully.

I threw in components just for good measure.

Please help.

Thanks

ZIP files --> This file is called dbdan22-32bit-Win7-CBS.zip to differentiate it from the 64 bit system.

Hello and welcome,

The log files indicate that you are using a Windows 7 64bit machine, not 32bit.
Please explain first.

There are logs for 2 PC's there, one 32, one 64.

The correct log for this PC, as stated in my post, is:

ZIP files --> This file is called dbdan22-32bit-Win7-CBS.zip to differentiate it from the 64 bit system.

Let's try a new link then, the link must have gotten messed up.

Please post only log files for the machine mentioned in this thread to avoid confusion.

Follow the instructions below please.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

Thank you, and sorry for the delay.

Applied sfcfix.

2019-01 Security Monthly Rollup for Windows 7 for x86-based Systems (KB4480970) keeps installing over and over, despite the fact that it says the update was successful. All other updates seem to be ok. It's just KB4480970 that's acting up.

Ran sfc /scannow again, it's clean. Ran Windows Update troubleshooter, says it fixed problems, but this problem with KB4480970 remains. Still keeps installing over and over.

New sfcfix.log, CBS folder, components:

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt.
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
wusa /uninstall /KB:4480970

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

OK Thanks.

But I'm not at that site every day.

May I ask, after I manually uninstall, what are the next step(s) you need me to do?

If manual uninstall succeeds, do .......

If manual uninstall fails, do ......

Thanks

But I'm not at that site every day.
What site ?
Try to uninstall it and report the result. Than we can move on with the next step.

I'm not at the site with the computer that's causing the trouble every day.

Please give me the next 2 steps?

If manual uninstall of KB4480970 succeeds, do this.... [ try installing it again? ]

If manual uninstall of KB4480970 fails, do this.... [ send sfcfix log, cbs, components, run surt? ]

I cover 9 sites. It would save me a trip. Thanks for your understanding.

All clear now.
After you have run the command in message #10 , do the following:

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.
4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Server Manager dialog.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps. You can minimize it if you wish but keep it open.
5. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
32-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

6. Right-click on the file FRST.exe and choose Run as administrator.
7. Copy and paste KB4480970 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
8. When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'SearchReg.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also. Close Notepad and attach the file 'SearchReg.txt' to your next reply.
9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Hi,

WUSA says, the update KB4480970 is not installed on this computer.

Searchreg.txt:
Code:
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (x86) Version: 4-02-2019
Ran by Admin (04-02-2019 13:58:29)
Running from C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\Green1
Boot Mode: Normal
================== Search Registry: "KB4480970" ===========

====== End of Search ======

I took the liberty of running sfc /scannow and checksur again. Both completed without any complaints.

Attached are the CBS folder (complete, with checkSUR.log), and the components store (after a restart, couldn't copy it with the file open).

dbdan22-green1-new-logs.zip
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnHOxq7pxsngjEivXTNMur_Buh3z

I see Windows is not asking to install KB4480970 anymore.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmm.......

Thanks.

Curious that WUSA said KB wasn't installed at all.
Do you want to wait for a couple of days to see how it goes or can we close this thread ?

let's see what fine, fine patches Microsoft has for us come February 12th.

Thanks.
