Hello, having issues getting update to run on a dual boot system. All updates work okay until windows update installs newest update for Windows updater itself (only on the 2nd time it does so)-> it asks to install newest windows update software itself, which seems to succeed, then goes on to check for actual system updates after and hangs at checking for updates. Tried running SURT and SFC fix to no avail. If I run SFC fix, get MSVCP100.dll missing, and it skips registry scan. Tried running as admin and installing C++ package that may correct for that file missing before hand (from research about MSVCP100.dll missing search on google) . If I run the troubleshooter I get two "problem installing window updates" successful fix, "service registry missing or corrupt" successful fix, and windows update error 0x80070057 (2016-07-01-T-12_03_27A) not fixed. Have tried installing windows fresh 3 times to no avail. Always messes up after 2nd install to the windows update itself. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. It is windows 7 pro x64 on GPT partition with windows 10. Need windows 7 for usb to serial driver for hvac controller, otherwise wouldn't dual boot. Cannot get SFC fix to find any issues, also have tried sfc /scannow with no issues as well.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

The CBS log doesn't contain the results from SFC /SCANNOW, this log is used by other applications accessing the CBS (ie windows update). Please follow the below steps to get a fresh scan to start with:

SFC /SCANNOW

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.zip For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.Zip"
  9. Attach this to your next post please.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Hello,

Do you have these two files? they were missing from the CBS folder upload:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

So funny thing, after letting windows update continue to search for updates for the past 5 days, it finally pulled down the updates itself. Received 242 updates at once, which may explain why it took so long. If anything changes, I will be sure to check back into this forum. I appreciate the response, and thank you for helping.
