Have run Sfc /Scannow - errors cannot be fixed. Have run SFCFix - errors cannot be fixed. Have run Chkdsk in read only - Terminates in Phase 2. Update troubleshooter run and 'fixed' 3 problems, but reboot still has the three problems.

My Windows version is 8.1 pro.

Attached files are: 1) Scannow.7.16.15.zip with same .docx file that has screenshots of running Scannow, sfcfix, chkdsk c:, and the screen shots of used and available space on my c: and d: partitions of the hard disk.
2)cbs.zip with cbs.log

Appreciate any help.

Had several updates from the Windows Update website that were auto downloaded with a question to restart to install them, which I did. Came back with a message that it could not install updates and was undoing whatever it already did. Upon examination of Windows Update for 'Install History', the entries were no longer there. Apparantly, the same updates that were unsuccessful are again ready to restart to install. Am attaching a screen shot of the list. After running the Update troubleshooter, the result was that 3 items were fixed, but attempting to restart and install came back with the failed message. I will restart again and get back with more information.

Had some issues with getting into safe mode - login password was not the same as normal login - turned out to be the password for my LIVE login.
Anyway, results are attached.

Go ahead and run chkdsk /r from an elevated command prompt.
It will ask if you want to schedule the disk check for the next reboot, type Y then press enter.

Restart your computer, and chkdsk should run before Windows starts up.
This check will take much longer than usual, please let it run to completion.

When you are back at the Desktop, run listchkdskresult again and attach or post the results with your reply.

Was unable to complete a full Chkdsk, so the listchkdskresult was not updated. I tried to run it from the recovery thumb drive and did not see all the results because of long run time, but it apparently completed, but this did not produce any results recorded either. Was thinking of connecting hard drive to another computer and running chkdsk that way. Any advice?

If you were able to complete the disk check from the recovery environment that should be sufficient.
What is the result if you run chkdsk in read only mode again?

Ran chkdsk c: - took a screen shot and attached (Chkdsk.ReadOnly.7.22.15.docx). Reran chkdsk d: /f from Recovery thumb drive command prompt and wrote down the progress which is attached (chkdsk_d_r.docx). Had to use d: as that was the normal C: drive is listed as in using the Recovery drive.

I am still failing to install all updates. A typed in a summary of the present 9 Important updates and what I observed about them. This summary is in file ImportantUpdates.docx.

Ok, looks like ChkDsk fixed the filesystem problems.

Let's get fresh logs.

On 7.19.15 I ran this command which resulted in error 800f0906. I reran this with same results - see attached file Dism.7.23.15. This file also includes running the command 'DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth' as well as the command 'DISM /online /cleanup-image /CheckHealth'. These two commands say that the "component store is repairable". I did a little looking and saw that the way to point to a 'healthy' Image is by the following command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess

The instruction is to replace 'C:\RepairSource\Windows' with the location of the alternate Image. I created this, I think, on the Thumb Drive per the instructions when I first installed Windows 8.1 pro. That Thumb Drive is located on my same computer as G: and has the name "ESD-USB". Would you explain how the specify the Source correctly?
Thanks

Ok, the logs look good.

Run Windows Update and click Check for Updates. This may take a while.
Once you have a list of available updates, choose only one of the updates and install it. Note the KB# of the update, you will need it later.
If the update does not install successfully, record the error message and error code and include that information with your reply.
If the error code is not listed, go to View Update History, find the update, then right click and choose view details.

Ran all the listed Important and optional updates - some successful - some not. Results in attached file.
